AEW Rampage Results: Winners, Live Grades, Reaction, Highlights From Dec. 15

Kevin BergeDec 15, 2023

All Elite Wrestling promised a fast and exciting hour of professional wrestling this week on the December 15 edition of AEW Rampage.

Dante Martin has returned, and he promised to put on a show alongside his brother Darius Martin and Action Andretti. The trio would fight the luchadors Penta El Zero M, Komander and El Hijo del Vikingo.

The Von Erichs would make their AEW debut as Marshall and Ross Vin Erich would team with Orange Cassidy to take on "Daddy Magic" Matt Menard, "Cool Hand" Angelo Parker and Jake Hager.

Anna Jay hoped to finally get some momentum in a one-on-one bout with the recently returned Red Velvet. Don Callis continued to showcase his Family in tag team action.

This was a can't-miss night of action for those looking to see the most exciting young talent in AEW, particularly in the main event.

Orange Cassidy and The Von Erichs vs. Matt Menard, Angelo Parker and Jake Hager

1 of 5

Ross and Marshall Von Erich were hometown heroes throughout and rode that crowd reaction to a big win. Marshall managed to roll up "Cool Hand" Angelo Parker for the three count.

The heels attacked the winners including Danhausen at ringside afterward until Kevin Von Erich arriving to trap Jake Hager in the Iron Claw.

This match was more of a spectacle than a true action-packed bout, though Cassidy was consistently great when in action. However, the point was clear, and this was a solid tribute to an important wrestling family that deserves happy moment.

It was a heartwarming to see such a happy moment for the Von Erichs. Ross and Marshall genuinely looked solid in the ring, working fast and physical. Kevin was having a blast appearing for a hot Texas crowd again.

It is hard to say what their ceiling may be, but athleticism and pedigree gives them a leg up if AEW were to take a chance on the boys.

Result

Marshall, Ross and Cassidy def. "Daddy Magic" Matt Menard, Parker and Hager by pinfall.

Notable Moments

  • The Von Erichs got a solid pop from the Texas crowd and continued to get strong reactions throughout.
  • Chris Jericho was still rooting for his former Jericho Appreciation Society members on commentary.
  • For those that do not know the story of The Von Erichs, The Iron Claw comes out on December 22, and he has gotten rave reviews.
  • Afterward, AEW showed a video of Jay Lethal and Mark Briscoe agreeing to make the most of their final Continental Classic match next week.

Don Callis Family vs. Hunter Grey and Paul Titan

2 of 5

Powerhouse Hobbs and Kyle Fletcher made quick work of Hunter Grey and Paul Titan. Hobbs won it with a World's Strongest Slam.

Don Callis cut his latest promo on Chris Jericho at ringside, promising to play by "Family Rules" where any two members of the stable could challenge The Golden Jets.

The Callis Family story continues to move slower than needed. This was a one-note squash that did not indicate that Fletcher and Hobbs have chemistry.

It is a shame that AEW is not doing more with the various members of the Callis Family. Konosuke Takeshita has some serious momentum that was squandered to promote Callis over anyone else.

Hobbs continues to look dominant, but he has been in that spot before. He needs to actually win and hold gold to take the next step.

Result

Hobbs and Fletcher def. Grey and Titan by pinfall.

Notable Moments

  • Best wishes to Kenny Omega, who announced today on X he would out indefinitely recovering from diverticulitis. Jericho will need a new partner for this Don Callis feud in the meantime.
  • Saraya interrupted Ruby Soho in her post-match comments from Dynamite. Soho challenged her to fight Riho.

Anna Jay vs. Red Velvet

3 of 5

Anna Jay had control of the action throughout. "Daddy Magic" Matt Menard tried to help, and he luckily got in the way of Red Velvet's comeback. This set Jay to trap her in the Queen Slayer to win.

Jay and Velvet did not find their chemistry in a match that was fine but not up to the talent involved. The Queen Slayer is still not all there as an in-ring performer and needs the right dance partner.

Velvet has looked smooth in the ring since her return, and it is a shame that she is losing so much.

The story of the former Jericho Appreciation Society struggling to work together is not landing at the moment. The distractions are just taking away from the work of the talent involved.

Result

Jay def. Velvet by submission.

Grade

C

Notable Moments

  • Menard almost distracted Jay enough to cost her the match to a roll-up.
  • Afterward, AEW recapped the latest progression of The Devil story from Dynamite, including the attack on Hangman Adam Page.

Top Flight and Action Andretti vs. Penta El Zero M, Komander and El Hijo del Vikingo

4 of 5

Top Flight and Action Andretti faced a tough fight from Penta El Zero M, Komander and El Hijo del Vikingo. It came down to Darius Martin passing Komander to his brother Dante Martin for a spin-out side slam for the win.

Call this a star-making match for everyone. The crowd was excited for it from the start, and everyone lived up to the hype and more. It was phenomenal and also beautifully put together to keep the action moving.

This match was worked with a heavy lucha libre influence for obvious reasons. Vikingo is one of the best Mexican wrestlers in the world today and pulled off unreal moves throughout. Komander gets better with each match and shocks with his light feet.

Dante, Darius and Action all work at a similar speed, especially Dante. Penta was the slowest man in the match but also the most decorated and successful for a reason. He kept the fans invested in the slower sections of the action.

By the end, it was clear how hard Top Flight and Andretti had to fight to win it, and it sets them up perfectly as the next challengers to The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn when they return.

Result

Top Flight and Andretti def. Penta, Komander and Vikingo by pinfall.

Grade

A+

Notable Moments

  • The crowd was loud for this one, even just for the "Zero Miedo" taunt early. Vikingo got a noticeable chant of his own as he guided the action.
  • Vikingo turned it around on all of his opponents with a double arm-drag on the Martin brothers, setting up a hot tag to Komander.
  • Darius suplexed Komander onto the apron. Vikingo hit Darius with a Canadian Destroyer on the apron. The action spots kept up from there.
  • A chop fest broke out between all six men that turned into superkicks and snap kicks that left them all down.
  • Chris Jericho said it was one of the single best matches he has ever seen in his 33 years wrestling.
  • Even Justin Roberts threw in "spectacular match" when announcing the winners.

Overall Show

5 of 5

Rampage was a one-match show, but when the match is as good as the main event, it is hard to fault that.

The card was certainly set up as a B-level night, but no one was going to tell that to Dante Martin, Darius Martin, Action Andretti, Penta El Zero M, Komander and El Hijo del Vikingo.

For those that could not catch it, the trios bout is exactly the kind of action that explains why AEW has a trios division.

The Von Erichs got a nice spotlight in the opener. Hopefully, it was not a one-and-done deal for Marshall and Ross Von Erich.

The rest of the show was forgettable. The interview segments were really just recaps from Dynamite. Anna Jay vs. Red Velvet could have been better. The Don Callis Family continues to squash competitors.

Hopefully, the good of this show carries over into future weeks. No one in the trios match should soon be forgotten.
