MLB Power Rankings with Surging Marlins, Plummeting Pirates and Blue Jays Plus a New No. 1

Joel ReuterJun 15, 2026

There is a new No. 1 team in our weekly MLB power rankings for the first time in eight weeks after the Atlanta Braves went 1-4 against the Chicago White Sox and New York Mets last week.

The White Sox continue to be one of the biggest early surprises of the season, and they are joined by a red-hot Miami Marlins team and an upstart Washington Nationals club as unexpected teams inside the top 10 in this week's rankings.

The league is becoming increasingly segmented into clear-cut contenders, fringe teams on the right side of contention, fringe teams on the wrong side of contention and afterthoughts, and those lines will become even more defined in the coming weeks.

In case you missed it, B/R's MLB Power Rankings from last week and every fresh power rankings throughout the season can be found at the new MLB Power Rankings hub.

Nos. 30-28

1 of 11
Washington Nationals v San Francisco Giants
Bryce Eldridge

30. San Francisco Giants (29-43)

Previous Rank: No. 28
Last Week: 1-2 vs. WAS, 1-2 vs. CHC

The Giants have scored three or fewer runs in nine of their 13 games so far in June, while piling up 46 runs in the other four games, as they remain one of baseball's most confounding teams. Rookie Bryce Eldridge went 10-for-22 with two doubles, three home runs and eight RBI last week, and he now has a .953 OPS in 121 plate appearances.

29. Colorado Rockies (27-45)

Previous Rank: No. 29
Last Week: 2-1 vs. CHC, 1-2 @ ATH

Despite a 23-run explosion on Sunday, the Rockies still have a minus-90 run differential that is the worst in baseball by a wide margin. It's fitting that the pitching staff allowed nine runs even in their most impressive win of the season, and their starting staff ranks last in the majors with a 6.08 ERA, more than a run higher than any other team.

28. Kansas City Royals (29-43)

Previous Rank: No. 25
Last Week: 1-2 vs. TEX, 1-2 vs. HOU

A Royals offense that ranks near the bottom of the league in runs scored (288, 24th) and OPS (.694, 25th) will now be without Vinnie Pasquantino for an extended period. The slugging first baseman suffered a fractured hamate bone in his right hand on Saturday, and he will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks.

Nos. 27-25

2 of 11
Detroit Tigers v Cleveland Guardians
Tarik Skubal

27. Boston Red Sox (29-40)

Previous Rank: No. 27
Last Week: 0-3 @ TB, 2-1 vs. TEX

The Red Sox plated 20 runs in three games against the Rangers after averaging 3.91 runs through their first 66 games. With three hits and two home runs on Sunday, Willson Contreras is now hitting .304/.396/.570 with 16 home runs and 43 RBI, putting together the best offensive season of his career in his age-34 campaign.

26. Los Angeles Angels (29-43)

Previous Rank: No. 30
Last Week: 2-1 vs. HOU, 2-1 vs. TB

The Angels have quietly gone 12-9 over their last seven series, logging four series wins during that stretch. With José Soriano, Reid Detmers and Walbert Ureña emerging as a reliable trio, they have climbed to a respectable 21st in the majors with a 4.54 ERA from the starting rotation.

25. Detroit Tigers (29-42)

Previous Rank: No. 26
Last Week: 2-1 vs. MIN, 0-2 @ CLE

The return of Tarik Skubal on Saturday was the story of the week for the Tigers, though he lasted just 4.2 innings and allowed five hits and three runs (two earned) in a loss to the Guardians. Rotation mate Casey Mize will be activated from his own IL stint on Wednesday, and he had a 2.27 ERA through 47.2 innings before he was sidelined.

Nos. 24-22

3 of 11
Seattle Mariners v Baltimore Orioles
Pete Alonso

24. Cincinnati Reds (33-37)

Previous Rank: No. 20
Last Week: 1-2 @ SD, 1-2 vs. ARI

The Reds were No. 12 in these rankings just three short weeks ago, but five straight series losses have sent them tumbling to the bottom of the NL Central standings. The offense has piled up 112 strikeouts in 12 games this month with a .218 batting average, and one of baseball's worst bullpens continues to be a glaring issue.

23. Baltimore Orioles (34-39)

Previous Rank: No. 19
Last Week: 2-2 vs. SEA, 1-2 vs. SD

The Orioles have not been above .500 since April 14, yet they continue to live on the fringe of relevance, sitting two games back in the AL wild-card standings. First baseman Pete Alonso had a .668 OPS at the end of April, but he has that up to an .808 OPS with 16 home runs and 48 RBI while swinging one of the hottest bats in baseball.

22. Minnesota Twins (33-40)

Previous Rank: No. 23
Last Week: 1-2 @ DET, 2-1 vs. STL

The Twins have just three road series wins so far this season and a 13-21 record overall away from Target Field, and 12 of their next 18 games will be away from home. Since his brief demotion to the minors, Royce Lewis has returned as the club's primary first baseman and is hitting .379/.424/.759 with two doubles and three home runs in 29 plate appearances.

Shocking Names Who Could Be Available at MLB Trade Deadline

Nos. 21-19

4 of 11
Philadelphia Phillies v Toronto Blue Jays
Dylan Cease

21. Houston Astros (33-40)

Previous Rank: No. 21
Last Week: 1-2 @ LAA, 2-1 @ KC

Since 1960, only eight MVP winners have come from a team with a losing record, and four of those belong to Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. With a .326/.433/.651 line that includes 24 home runs and 54 RBI in 72 games, Yordan Alvarez is having the sort of season that could warrant serious consideration while playing for an Astros team that simply does not have the pitching to contend.

20. New York Mets (32-39)

Previous Rank: No. 24
Last Week: 1-2 vs. STL, 2-1 vs. ATL

The Mets are 22-18 over their last 40 games, which has helped them inch closer to respectability, but not fully pulled them out of the massive early hole they dug in April. Prized free-agent addition Bo Bichette is reportedly expected to opt out of the final two years of his contract this winter, and that's generally not a good thing to be talking about before the All-Star break.

19. Toronto Blue Jays (34-38)

Previous Rank: No. 15
Last Week: 1-2 vs. PHI, 1-2 vs. NYY

The Blue Jays were playing well at the end of May, but that momentum has not carried over to June with a 5-7 record and minus-15 run differential to start the month. After missing two starts with a hamstring strain, Dylan Cease returned to the mound on Tuesday with six innings of three-hit, one-run, 11-strikeout ball.

Nos. 18-16

5 of 11
Chicago Cubs v. Colorado Rockies
Pete Crow-Armstrong

18. Athletics (35-36)

Previous Rank: No. 22
Last Week: 2-1 vs. MIL, 2-1 vs. COL

The Athletics pitching staff served up a 23-run debacle against the Rockies on Sunday, but they still finished the week with a pair of series wins and knocking on the door of a .500 record. On a positive note on the pitching side, rookie Gage Jump has a 1.96 ERA over 18.1 innings in his last three starts after a rocky debut, and he looks to be settling in as a reliable rotation piece.

17. Pittsburgh Pirates (36-36)

Previous Rank: No. 8
Last Week: 1-2 vs. LAD, 1-2 vs. MIA

The Pirates have not been below .500 since they were 2-3 to start the year, but two more series losses last week have them squarely in the danger zone. The pitching staff that was so foundational to their early success ranks 27th in the majors with a 5.88 ERA in June, and has allowed eight or more runs four times in the last six games.

16. Chicago Cubs (37-35)

Previous Rank: No. 17
Last Week: 1-2 @ COL, 2-1 @ SF

For the first time in weeks, the Cubs showed some signs of life with three straight wins during their West Coast road trip to take on the Rockies and Giants. The unheralded duo of Javier Assad (6.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER) and Ben Brown (5.0 IP, 7 H, 1 ER) has propped up a beleaguered pitching staff, while Pete Crow-Armstrong (1.210 OPS, 5 HR) has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball in June.

Nos. 15-13

6 of 11
Arizona Diamondbacks v Cincinnati Reds
Paul Sewald

15. Arizona Diamondbacks (36-35)

Previous Rank: No. 16
Last Week: 0-3 @ MIA, 2-1 @ CIN

The D-backs were a season-high seven games above .500 on May 27, but they have gone just 5-11 in their last 16 games, with Sunday's victory marking their first series win since the start of that skid. Signed to a one-year, $1.5 million deal during the offseason, Paul Sewald (29 G, 17/18 SV, 3.08 ERA, 9.9 K/9) has been one of the best bargains of the offseason while shoring up the closer's role.

14. Texas Rangers (35-36)

Previous Rank: No. 10
Last Week: 2-1 @ KC, 1-2 @ BOS

A 7-2 stretch moved the Rangers into the top 10 last week, and they followed that up with a series win over the Royals before allowing 20 runs in three games against the Red Sox. Left-hander Jacob Latz picked up his 11th save of the season on Sunday night, and he has been a revelation at the back of the bullpen with a 1.62 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and .116 opponents' batting average in 26 appearances.

13. St. Louis Cardinals (38-31)

Previous Rank: No. 11
Last Week: 2-1 @ NYM, 1-2 @ MIN

The Cardinals are 19-18 against teams with a winning record and have a 36-33 expected win-loss record, with each passing week leaving them looking more and more like a viable playoff contender. Call-up Blaze Jordan went viral with a pair of 500-foot home runs as a 13-year-old in 2016, and almost a decade later he hit his first MLB long ball on Saturday.

Nos. 12-10

7 of 11
Seattle Mariners v Washington Nationals
Colt Emerson

12. San Diego Padres (37-33)

Previous Rank: No. 14
Last Week: 2-1 vs. CIN, 2-1 @ BAL

The Padres entered last week riding a skid of four straight series losses, but they successfully righted the ship before dropping below the .500 mark with a 4-2 week against the Reds and Orioles. Samad Taylor has given the offense a nice boost while replacing the injured Ramón Laureano in left field, going 10-for-28 with a double, a home run and eight RBI in eight games.

11. Seattle Mariners (37-36)

Previous Rank: No. 9
Last Week: 2-2 @ BAL, 1-2 @ WAS

The Mariners are 15-10 in their last 25 games, and they have climbed from third to first in a wide open AL West race during that time even with a weekend series loss to the Nationals. Rookie Colt Emerson hit two more home runs last week, and he now has an .876 OPS with five doubles, six homers and 14 RBI in 23 games since debuting on May 17.

10. Miami Marlins (36-36)

Previous Rank: No. 18
Last Week: 3-0 vs. ARI, 2-1 @ PIT

The Marlins have the best record in baseball since the start of June, going 10-2 in their last 12 games to get back to .500 on the year. The pitching staff has twirled a 2.52 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 120 strikeouts in 107 innings this month, and they have done it after losing Eury Pérez, Janson Junk and Robby Snelling all to injury in late May.

Nos. 9-7

8 of 11
Boston Red Sox v Tampa Bay Rays
Drew Rasmussen

9. Washington Nationals (37-35)

Previous Rank: No. 12
Last Week: 2-1 @ SF, 2-1 vs. SEA

After getting swept by the Marlins at the start of June, the Nationals are rolling once again with three straight series wins. The offense leads the majors with 392 runs scored, and James Wood is making a strong case to start the All-Star Game with a .972 OPS and 20 home runs.

8. Cleveland Guardians (39-33)

Previous Rank: No. 5
Last Week: 0-3 vs. NYY, 2-0 vs. DET

The Guardians took two of three at Yankee Stadium at the start of June, but the Yankees answered last week with a three-game sweep at Progressive Field, dropping Cleveland to 14-17 on the year against teams with a winning record. Can they survive without José Ramírez, who suffered a fractured left hamate bone on Saturday and will miss extended time?

7. Tampa Bay Rays (41-27)

Previous Rank: No. 7
Last Week: 3-0 vs. BOS, 1-2 @ LAA

The Rays have not been as dominant the last few weeks after looking like one of the best teams in baseball, but they are still one of only five clubs with 40 wins, and their 24-9 record at home is the best in baseball. Drew Rasmussen (13 GS, 2.71 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, 73.0 IP) is a strong contender for most underrated pitcher in baseball, and he has allowed just three hits with 22 strikeouts over 14 scoreless innings in his last two starts.

Nos. 6-4

9 of 11
New York Yankees v. Cleveland Guardians
Paul Goldschmidt

6. Chicago White Sox (38-32)

Previous Rank: No. 13
Last Week: 2-0 vs. ATL, 2-1 vs. LAD

The White Sox welcomed the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in last week's MLB power rankings to Rate Field and came away with a 4-1 record and further proof that this upstart group is the real deal. The run of difficult opponents continues as they kick off a three-game series at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, and a series win would make this a top-five team next week.

5. Philadelphia Phillies (38-33)

Previous Rank: No. 4
Last Week: 2-1 @ TOR, 1-2 @ MIL

The Phillies have not lost consecutive games since May 22, going 13-7 in their last 20 games to effectively erase their lackluster start. After missing the first 26 games of the season, Zack Wheeler is right back to pitching like an ace with a 2.22 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in 56.2 innings over nine starts.

4. New York Yankees (43-27)

Previous Rank: No. 6
Last Week: 3-0 @ CLE, 2-1 @ TOR

With a 13-5 record in their last 18 games and a pair of road series wins last week, the Yankees are playing some of their best baseball of the season right now, and they are doing it with Aaron Judge on the sidelines. Veteran Paul Goldschmidt went 10-for-25 with two home runs last week, and he has an .898 OPS in 175 plate appearances on the year.

Nos. 3-1

10 of 11
Philadelphia Phillies v Milwaukee Brewers
Jackson Chourio

3. Milwaukee Brewers (43-26)

Previous Rank: No. 3
Last Week: 1-2 @ ATH, 2-1 vs. PHI

The Brewers lead the majors with 27 victories against teams with a winning record following their weekend series win over the Phillies, and they have built a five-game lead in the NL Central standings. Jackson Chourio went 13-for-29 with five home runs last week, and he is hitting .322/.370/.572 with 20 extra-base hits in 35 games since returning from a fractured finger he suffered during the WBC.

2. Atlanta Braves (46-25)

Previous Rank: No. 1
Last Week: 0-2 @ CWS, 1-2 @ NYM

The Braves offense has gone cold, with a .647 OPS in June that ranks 29th in the majors, though they still have a 6-5 record this month thanks to the continued performance of a better-than-expected rotation and a lights out bullpen. Catcher Drake Baldwin began a rehab assignment at Triple-A on Saturday, going 1-for-3 with a home run.

1. Los Angeles Dodgers (45-27)

Previous Rank: No. 2
Last Week: 2-1 @ PIT, 1-2 @ CWS

The Dodgers lead the majors in run differential (+141), OPS (.788) and starting pitching ERA (3.09), giving them a strong case for the most well-rounded team in baseball. After a rough first season with the Dodgers after signing a four-year, $72 million deal, Tanner Scott (31 G, 7/8 SV, 2.48 ERA, 10.9 K/9) is again pitching like a top-tier reliever, helping ease the loss of Edwin Díaz.
