MLB Power Rankings as Phillies Enter Top 5, Rangers Vault Into Top 10 While Cubs, Reds Keep Sliding

Joel ReuterJun 8, 2026

The Philadelphia Phillies were one of the most disappointing teams in baseball during the first month of the season, but they have steadily climbed to their highest placement of the season in this week's MLB power rankings.

The Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers are still the teams everyone else is chasing, but the Milwaukee Brewers have closed the gap to that top tier, while the Texas Rangers are making some serious noise en route to their first top 10 ranking.

The line between contender and non-contender remains blurry in the middle of the pack, but each passing week brings more clarity, and it's only a matter of time before trade rumblings take center stage.

For now, settle in for an updated look at the current MLB landscape.

In case you missed it, B/R's MLB Power Rankings from last week and every fresh power rankings throughout the season can be found at the new MLB Power Rankings hub.

Nos. 30-28

1 of 11
Los Angeles Angels v Los Angeles Dodgers
Reid Detmers

30. Los Angeles Angels (25-41)

Previous Rank: No. 26
Last Week: 1-2 vs. COL, 1-2 @ LAD

The Angels plated 13 runs on Sunday, the most the Dodgers have allowed all season, but they still dropped consecutive series last week while falling to 4-7 in their last 11 games. With a 1.89 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 19 innings over his last three starts, Reid Detmers has seemingly hit his stride in his transition back into the rotation.

29. Colorado Rockies (24-42)

Previous Rank: No. 27
Last Week: 2-1 @ LAA, 0-3 vs. MIL

The Rockies picked up their third road series win of the season when they took two of three from the Angels last week, but immediately followed that up by suffering their fourth sweep of the year. The Colorado offense is improved, but a 5.60 ERA that ranks last in the majors by more than half a run has been too much to overcome.

28. San Francisco Giants (27-39)

Previous Rank: No. 29
Last Week: 2-2 @ MIL, 2-1 @ CHC

The Giants went 5-5 on their recent 10-game road trip, with offensive outbursts of 19, 12 and 18 runs along the way. Now they head back to Oracle Park where they have plated just 105 runs in 28 games, and they will look to keep that offensive momentum going while continuing to dig out of their big early hole.

Nos. 27-25

2 of 11
Kansas City Royals v Cincinnati Reds
Michael Massey

27. Boston Red Sox (27-36)

Previous Rank: No. 24
Last Week: 1-2 vs. BAL, 1-1 @ NYY

The Red Sox shook things up in the starting rotation on Friday when Brayan Bello was optioned to the minors with a 6.34 ERA over 61 innings, and left-hander Jake Bennett (1.60 ERA, 39.1 IP at Triple-A) is expected to be promoted on Wednesday to fill his spot in the rotation. Sitting 10.5 games back in the AL East standings and with the fourth-worst record in the AL, it's time for drastic measures.

26. Detroit Tigers (27-39)

Previous Rank: No. 30
Last Week: 3-0 @ TB, 2-1 vs. SEA

A week after bottoming out in the No. 30 spot, the Tigers looked like a different team with a pair of impressive series wins, and it might not be long before ace Tarik Skubal is back in the mix. The two-time Cy Young winner made his first rehab start at High-A West Michigan on Sunday and tossed five scoreless innings with six strikeouts. He could be back on a big league mound as soon as this upcoming weekend.

25. Kansas City Royals (27-39)

Previous Rank: No. 28
Last Week: 2-1 @ CIN, 3-1 @ MIN

The Royals just won back-to-back series for the first time all season, and they did it on the road where they were an ugly 7-20 through the end of May. A lack of offensive production has been an issue all season, but they plated 37 runs in seven games last week, with Michael Massey (10-for-26, 2 HR, 5 RBI) providing a nice boost at the bottom of the lineup.

Nos. 24-22

3 of 11
New York Yankees v Athletics
J.T. Ginn

24. New York Mets (29-36)

Previous Rank: No. 23
Last Week: 1-2 @ SEA, 2-1 @ SD

Who would have guessed the Mets' go-to lineup at the beginning of June would feature Jared Young at first base, A.J. Ewing in center field, Luis Torrens at catcher and MJ Melendez at designated hitter? Injuries have obviously played a major role in the offense sitting 29th in the majors with a .661 OPS, and they simply haven't had the pitching to offset those struggles.

23. Minnesota Twins (30-37)

Previous Rank: No. 22
Last Week: 2-1 vs. CWS, 1-3 vs. KC

The Twins climbed all the way to No. 13 in these rankings just a few short weeks ago, but with a 4-10 record in their last 14 games they once again look like a team treading water ahead of an inevitable rebuild. Right-hander Yoendrys Gómez (16 G, 3/3 SV, 0.64 ERA, 11.6 K/9) has been quietly excellent at the back of the bullpen since he was acquired from the Rays for cash considerations on May 6.

22. Athletics (31-34)

Previous Rank: No. 20
Last Week: 2-1 @ CHC, 1-2 @ HOU

Only the Rockies (9), Nationals (11) and Padres (13) have fewer quality starts than the 14 logged by the Athletics staff so far this year. Five of those have come from J.T. Ginn over the span of his last six starts, and he has a 1.49 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 36.1 innings during that impressive stretch. Can rookies Gage Jump and Kade Morris join Ginn and reliever-turned-starter Jack Perkins in reshaping the starting staff?

Nos. 21-19

4 of 11
Baltimore Orioles v Toronto Blue Jays
Adley Rutschman

21. Houston Astros (30-37)

Previous Rank: No. 21
Last Week: 1-2 vs. PIT, 2-1 vs. ATH

Houston made a handful of roster moves last week, including welcoming Jose Altuve back from the injured list and adding LaMonte Wade Jr. in free agency. The veteran opted out of his minor league deal with the White Sox, and he is 3-for-10 with a double and a home run since joining the Astros. Even with their disappointing start, the Astros are still only 4.5 games back in the AL West standings.

20. Cincinnati Reds (31-33)

Previous Rank: No. 15
Last Week: 1-2 vs. KC, 0-3 @ STL

The Reds are 2-8 in their last 10 games, and they have fallen from third to fifth in the NL Central standings in the process. The rotation looked like a strength when the season started, but it's instead been a weakness behind budding ace Chase Burns. Where would the offense be without the minor league deals handed to JJ Bleday (.931 OPS, 10 HR, 28 RBI) and Nathaniel Lowe (.834 OPS, 9 HR, 25 RBI) during the offseason?

19. Baltimore Orioles (31-35)

Previous Rank: No. 18
Last Week: 2-1 @ BOS, 1-2 @ TOR

The Orioles have gone 10-6 since getting swept by the Rays, with the offense averaging 5.9 runs per game during that stretch and looking more like the group this was expected to be after a busy offseason. Adley Rutschman leads the team with an .832 OPS while tallying 22 extra-base hits in 204 plate appearances, and splitting time behind the plate with rookie standout Samuel Basallo is keeping him fresh.

Nos. 18-16

5 of 11
Arizona Diamondbacks v San Francisco Giants
Paul Sewald

18. Miami Marlins (31-35)

Previous Rank: No. 25
Last Week: 3-0 @ WAS, 2-1 vs. TB

The Marlins halted a five-game losing streak last Monday and went on to pick up back-to-back series wins over teams that were slotted inside the top 10 in last week's rankings. The middle infield tandem of Otto Lopez (.336, 2nd) and Xavier Edwards (.302, 10th) are two of only 11 qualified hitters in the NL batting over .300 on the year.

17. Chicago Cubs (34-32)

Previous Rank: No. 16
Last Week: 1-2 vs. ATH, 1-2 vs. SF

The Cubs team that won 15 straight games at Wrigley Field earlier this year is a distant memory following two more series losses at home, including an ugly 18-3 blowout on Friday. With a 4.83 ERA that ranks 28th in the majors, the starting rotation has become a serious problem, and Jameson Taillon left Sunday's start in the second inning with a left hamstring strain to make matters worse.

16. Arizona Diamondbacks (34-31)

Previous Rank: No. 14
Last Week: 2-2 vs. LAD, 1-2 vs. WAS

The trio of Eduardo Rodríguez (13 GS, 2.52 ERA, 78.2 IP), Michael Soroka (13 GS, 3.28 ERA, 74.0 IP) and Paul Sewald (26 G, 15/16 SV, 3.47 ERA) deserves a ton of credit for unexpectedly anchoring the D-backs staff. They will play 13 of their next 19 games on the road, where they are 13-17 with a minus-15 run differential so far this year.

Nos. 15-13

6 of 11
Minnesota Twins v Chicago White Sox
Miguel Vargas

15. Toronto Blue Jays (32-34)

Previous Rank: No. 17
Last Week: 1-2 @ ATL, 2-1 vs. BAL

The Blue Jays are expected to welcome Dylan Cease (Tuesday) and Max Scherzer (Wednesday) back from the injured list this week, and catcher Alejandro Kirk is not far behind. A pair of tough matchups await as they welcome the Phillies and Yankees to the Rogers Centre, where they have gone 19-14 on the year.

14. San Diego Padres (33-31)

Previous Rank: No. 12
Last Week: 0-3 @ PHI, 1-2 vs. NYM

The Padres held a half-game lead over the Dodgers atop the NL West on May 18, but with a 4-13 record in their last 17 games they now sit eight games back in the standings. They rank last in the majors in OPS (.644) and runs scored (241), and Manny Machado is last among 161 qualified hitters with a .169 average.

13. Chicago White Sox (34-31)

Previous Rank: No. 10
Last Week: 1-2 @ MIN, 1-2 @ PHI

The White Sox scored 35 runs in six games last week, and the pitching staff recorded its fifth shutout of the year on Wednesday, but they came away with a pair of series losses. This week's home stand against the Braves and Dodgers will be a terrific gauge of whether one of the season's biggest upstart stories is the real deal.

Nos. 12-10

7 of 11
Texas Rangers v Colorado Rockies
Jacob Latz

12. Washington Nationals (33-33)

Previous Rank: No. 8
Last Week: 0-3 vs. MIA, 2-1 @ ARI

The Nationals responded to getting swept by the Marlins by outscoring the D-backs by a 21-7 margin over the weekend, and they still lead the majors with 352 runs scored. The fact that this team has played .500 baseball while navigating a bullpen that has 16 losses and 16 blown saves is impressive, but they will need to find some consistency if they want to hang around in contention.

11. St. Louis Cardinals (35-28)

Previous Rank: No. 13
Last Week: 1-2 vs. TEX, 3-0 vs. CIN

The Cardinals have won four straight on the other side of a 3-9 stretch of games, and they would still be the top NL wild card if the season ended today. Outfielder Lars Nootbaar made his 2026 debut on Friday, and he is 3-for-10 with a double and a home run in his first three games back as he looks to provide a boost in left field where the team has produced a .246/.292/.397 on the year.

10. Texas Rangers (32-33)

Previous Rank: No. 19
Last Week: 2-1 @ STL, 2-1 vs. CLE

The Rangers are 7-2 in their last nine games and looking to climb above the .500 mark since they were 14-13 on April 25. One of the biggest surprises in baseball has been their patchwork bullpen sitting fourth in the majors with a 3.16 ERA after looking like a major issue heading into the year. Jacob Latz (23 G, 9/11 SV, 2 HLD, 1.86 ERA) and Jakob Junis (23 G, 4/5 SV, 6 HLD, 1.69 ERA) have been a dynamic one-two punch.

Nos. 9-7

8 of 11
Pittsburgh Pirates v Atlanta Braves
Nick Gonzales

9. Seattle Mariners (34-32)

Previous Rank: No. 11
Last Week: 2-1 vs. NYM, 1-2 @ DET

Despite dropping their weekend series to the Tigers, the Mariners are still 10-5 in their last 15 games and trending up. They have a 1.5-game lead in the AL West standings and a plus-29 run differential that trails only the Yankees (+96) among AL clubs. Cal Raleigh began a rehab assignment on Sunday at High-A Everett, though he's still at least a week away from returning.

8. Pittsburgh Pirates (34-32)

Previous Rank: No. 7
Last Week: 2-1 @ HOU, 0-3 @ ATL

The Pirates played the Braves tough in a three-game sweep, with one three-run inning in each game proving to be the difference. Now they have another opportunity to show they belong in the serious contender conversation when they welcome the Dodgers to town on Tuesday. Infielder Nick Gonzales ranks sixth in the NL batting race with a .309 average.

7. Tampa Bay Rays (37-25)

Previous Rank: No. 4
Last Week: 0-3 vs. DET, 1-2 @ MIA

The Rays drop out of the top five for the first time in six weeks after series losses to the Tigers and Marlins dropped them to 2-10 in their last 12 games. With a plus-seven run differential and a 32-30 expected win-loss record, some level of regression was expected. Now they will look to right the ship against the Red Sox and Angels this week.

Nos. 6-4

9 of 11
San Diego Padres v Philadelphia Phillies
Cristopher Sánchez

6. New York Yankees (38-26)

Previous Rank: No. 5
Last Week: 1-2 vs. CLE, 1-1 vs. BOS

A scheduled off day on Monday and a rainout on Saturday led to an abridged first week without Aaron Judge for the Yankees. Prospect Spencer Jones was recalled from Triple-A, and he will split time with speedy José Caballero in right field in Judge's absence. Can they weather the storm with their superstar sidelined?

5. Cleveland Guardians (37-30)

Previous Rank: No. 6
Last Week: 2-1 @ NYY, 1-2 @ TEX

The Guardians are 21-14 since the beginning of May, which is the best record in the American League and gives them a two-game cushion over the White Sox in the AL Central. After a slow start, José Ramírez is up to a .772 OPS with 17 doubles, 10 home runs, 33 RBI and 23 steals.

4. Philadelphia Phillies (35-30)

Previous Rank: No. 9
Last Week: 3-0 vs. SD, 2-1 vs. CWS

An early managerial firing does not always jump start a team as hoped, but it's done just that for the Phillies, as they are now 26-11 under interim manager Don Mattingly. Lefty Cristopher Sánchez had his impressive scoreless streak snapped at 50.2 innings last week, good for the fifth-longest streak in MLB history and the best ever by a southpaw.

Nos. 3-1

10 of 11
MLB: JUN 06 Angels at Dodgers
Shohei Ohtani

3. Milwaukee Brewers (40-23)

Previous Rank: No. 3
Last Week: 2-2 vs. SF, 3-0 @ COL

Over their last 12 matchups, the Brewers have nine series wins, two series splits and one series loss, and their 26-10 record during that span is the best in baseball. They rank inside the top five in the majors in ERA (3.26, third) and runs scored (329, fifth), and have perhaps the biggest breakout star of the 2026 season in young ace Jacob Misiorowski (13 GS, 1.50 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, 116 K, 78.0 IP).

2. Los Angeles Dodgers (42-24)

Previous Rank: No. 2
Last Week: 2-2 @ ARI, 2-1 vs. LAA

The Dodgers tossed a pair of shutouts last week while also picking up their third walk-off win of the year, and even after Sunday's lopsided 13-5 loss, they still lead the majors with a plus-133 run differential. Shohei Ohtani went 12-for-25 with four extra-base hits in the batter's box last week while also tossing six scoreless innings on the mound to lower his ERA to 0.74 in 61 innings.

1. Atlanta Braves (45-21)

Previous Rank: No. 1
Last Week: 2-1 vs. TOR, 3-0 vs. PIT

With four straight series wins, including a three-game sweep of a good Pirates team over the weekend, the Braves are still the team everyone is chasing in 2026. They have not lost more than two consecutive games since April 6, and will put an impressive 23-10 road record to the test against the White Sox and Mets this week.
