Seahawks' Rooting Guide for NFL Playoff Implications of Week 14
The Seattle Seahawks are in danger of falling out of the NFC wild-card race.
Seattle enters its Week 14 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers on a three-game losing streak that dropped it to 6-6 and into ninth place in the NFC.
Pete Carroll's team needs to find a way to get a win over the Niners, a team that beat it 31-13 two weeks ago, to revive its postseason hopes.
Seattle also needs help from around the NFL to feel okay about its playoff potential, even with a loss.
The Seahawks need the Los Angeles Rams to lose the most since Sean McVay's side owns two head-to-head wins over them.
Seattle needs that specific tiebreaker eliminated from its playoff chase of the final two NFC wild-card places.
Ravens over Rams
1 of 3
Seattle needs the Rams to lose the most out of the three 6-6 teams in front of it in the wild-card race.
Los Angeles inched ahead of the Seahawks after Week 13 because of its two head-to-head wins over Seattle.
The Rams started the Seahawks' current three-game losing run with a 17-16 victory in Week 11. They won in Week 1 by a 30-13 score.
Seattle is not considered in the tiebreaks with the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers right now because of the head-to-head component with the Rams.
The good news for the Seahawks is that the Rams should pick up a loss on the road in Baltimore on Sunday.
Lamar Jackson and Co. are chasing the No. 1 seed in the AFC and they can't avoid any slip-ups in their competition with the Miami Dolphins.
Week 14 seems like the ideal week for Seattle to flip around its race with the Rams, but in order for that to happen, it needs to beat the 49ers.
At minimum, the Rams and Seahawks should be on the same record if they both suffer losses in Week 14.
Raiders over Vikings
2 of 3
Rooting for the opponents of the two teams in sixth and seventh place in the NFC will be a harder exercise for Seahawks fans.
Seattle has to hope that the Minnesota offense looks out of sync, even with Justin Jefferson returning from his hamstring injury.
The Vikings still have a big weakness at quarterback in Joshua Dobbs, and he is going up against a tenacious Las Vegas Raiders pass rush.
Minnesota comes into Week 14 with a 4-2 record, and Jefferson's return could provide a massive boost to the franchise.
Seattle needs Jefferson to not make a major impact and for the Vikings to drop to 6-7 so it can remain within striking distance of at least wild-card spot if it loses to the 49ers.
Giants over Packers
3 of 3
The Seahawks need Tommy DeVito to deliver some Monday night magic.
The New York Giants are playing their best football of the season, but so are the Green Bay Packers.
Green Bay vaulted the Rams and Seahawks into the No. 7 seed with its surprise home win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Most people believe the Packers will continue their winning ways inside MetLife Stadium, but as we saw last week with Green Bay, upsets are always a possibility.
The Giants need to play a perfect game to beat Green Bay, and even that might not be enough with the way the Packers are playing.
A Packers loss would be significant for the Seahawks to drop them to 6-7, but also put another loss on Green Bay's conference record, which will be the tiebreaker used between the Packers and Seahawks if they are tied and the Rams are out of the picture.
Seattle comes into Week 14 with a 5-4 mark inside the NFC, while Green Bay is 4-3.
