Buying or Selling Latest CM Punk at WWE Survivor Series Rumors, MJF Contract and More
It's hard to envision a pro wrestling rumor mill busier than this holiday season thanks to the happenings in both WWE and AEW.
For starters, the Survivor Series weekend on WWE's side naturally arrived with droves of buzz on the rumor mill. Even the intentionally-spoiled return of Randy Orton came attached with an interesting rumor relating to another major Superstar.
Add in MJF's possible upcoming free agency, the current free agency of a guy named CM Punk and some mysterious WWE storylines and well, the mill has been busier than a store on Black Friday.
With so much going on in the pro wrestling realm and the steady stream of buzz looking like it won't slow, here's a look at the must-know rumors and whether fans should buy or sell on them.
WWE Talent Lost on Shinsuke Nakamura's Target
1 of 4Shinsuke Nakamura has been in one of the most interesting pro wrestling storylines of the last month or two simply by calling out a mystery opponent in promos.
It hasn't just been an amazing way to keep Nakamura intriguing for fans after repeated losses to Seth Rollins—the speculation has hit overdrive.
So much so that, according to Fightful Select (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), even WWE talent backstage aren't aware of who he's referring to in these segments.
And that's a really easy buy. At this point, WWE wouldn't build it like this if it was just another current-roster Superstar because the disappointment would be huge.
Which means it is someone huge and likely a debut. Rampant fan theories point at CM Punk or others. Either way, if it's someone on that level, it's no wonder the rest of the roster wouldn't be clued in before fans, either.
Verdict: Buying
WWE's stance on CM Punk Has Not Changed
2 of 4With Survivor Series taking place in Chicago, two things were inevitable in the run-up to the show—fan speculation would hit overdrive and the live crowd would chant his name often during the proceedings.
Despite this, according to Fightful Select (h/t Ortman), WWE "has not changed" in its stance on a Punk return.
Meaning, the company remains in no thanks mode.
But that one is just hard to see from an outsider's perspective. By now, it's pretty clear to WWE that fan interest is huge, to the point of likely bringing back lapsed fans or even new ones over from AEW.
And sure, WWE is doing fantastic without Punk right now, but that doesn't mean there isn't money to be made in a return, either—while harming a direct competitor.
Adding fuel to this hypothetical fire is the idea that this anti-Punk report is exactly what a company set to surprise fans might leak, even if it happens at say, Royal Rumble, and not right now.
Verdict: Selling
WWE Thinks MJF Re-signed With AEW
3 of 4MJF, AEW and especially fans would probably love to do a free agency storyline centered on the company's top Superstar considering jumping ship.
That's just good entertainment for fans and an engrossing, reality-blending storyline.
But it doesn't sound like WWE, for one, would buy it.
According to Haus of Wrestling (h/t Ortman), WWE believes that MJF has already re-signed with AEW, potentially keeping him over there until 2027.
This sort of report won't stop fans from having a good time with a free-agency storyline. But it does probably explain why we don't see more rumblings about WWE reaching out and vice versa so close to his contract supposedly expiring.
And considering MJF is only 27 years old, there's still plenty of time for MJF to make the leap years down the line. But right now, it's pretty easy to buy that WWE would no-sell the free agency thing, especially because it would make so much sense for AEW to get it done right now.

Randy Orton Reveal an Attempt to Stop CM Punk Chants
4 of 4WWE got awkward on the go-home Raw before Survivor Series, having Cody Rhodes spoil the surprise return of Randy Orton as the final member of his team for the WarGames match.
In a weird twist, a new rumor says this actually had to do with CM Punk.
According to Fightful Select (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News), the spoiler from Rhodes was in part an effort to shut down fan expectations of a surprise Punk return.
And while that makes sense, WWE isn't ignorant to the fact that Punk chants in Chicago are inevitable. At the risk of getting repetitive, this sort of leak is what a company about to surprise fans might put out, too.
Plus, if absolutely nothing else at all, there wasn't much of a point to hide Orton's return before the show because it was so painfully obvious and fans were expecting it.
Verdict: Selling
