3 Takeaways from Packers' Week 11 Win vs. Chargers
Jordan Love provided the Green Bay Packers with hope that could be the long-term answer at quarterback on Sunday.
Love produced his first 300-yard passing performance as the Packers starter in a 23-20 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Utah State product utilized a variety of offensive weapons to pick up the Packers' fourth win of the season.
Jayden Reed continued his standout season with contributions in both aspects of the offense, while everyone else on the wide receiver and tight end depth charts chipped in to make some big plays.
Sunday's win moved the Packers up to eighth place in the NFC standings, and while a playoff berth may seem far-fetched right now, all it takes is one week of results for that to become an even bigger reality.
Jordan Love Delivered His Best Performance of the Season
1 of 3
The Love that many Green Bay fans wanted to see at the start of the season appeared on Sunday.
Love threw for 322 yards and two touchdowns, and most importantly, he did not throw an interception and was sacked just three times.
Love turned in some decent numbers in the Week 10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the 289-yard showing was shrouded by two interceptions.
The first-year starter did not make many mistakes against the Chargers and he finished with 62 more passing yards than Justin Herbert.
Love had a bit of an easier task on his hands once Joey Bosa left the game with an injury. That meant only Khalil Mack chased after him on every series.
Love handled the pressure as well as he could, as he was taken down just three times. Mack had two of those takedowns.
The Green Bay offense also worked around an injury of its own to Aaron Jones. The performance from Love and Co. at least gave the fans some hope that the Packers will be competitive in every game over the next seven weeks.
Offensive Depth Was on Display
2 of 3
The Packers made their current wide receiver situation work on Sunday.
Jayden Reed continued his breakout season with a touchdown run and four catches for 46 yards.
Dontayvion Wicks led the Packers with 91 receiving yards and Romeo Doubs produced a team high of five catches.
Even Christian Watson found a way to make an impact, as he caught a touchdown pass in the third quarter.
Watson has not lived up to expectations as the potential No. 1 wide receiver. Green Bay finally found a productive way to work around that.
Watson is primarily a red-zone and big-play threat right now, while Wicks, Reed and Doubs are the volume pass-catchers.
Love also got tight ends Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft involved as part of an offense that had 10 players catch a pass on Sunday.
The depth in options could help the Packers against softer defenses, starting with the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day.
Second Half Defense Helped Packers Win
3 of 3
The Packers allowed two scoring drives to the Chargers in the second half.
Los Angeles kicked a field goal on its first series out of the halftime break and its only other second-half score was a touchdown that Love immediately answered.
The Packers forced their AFC West foe into two punts, one turnover on downs and a fumble on four of its six second-half drives.
Three of those stops occurred on drives that did not go more than 15 yards. The forced fumble ended a five-play, 75-yard series.
The Packers did not let Austin Ekeler or Keenan Allen completely outplay them and that led to one of their most complete performances of the season.
