Will Ospreay a Franchise Player for AEW, Randy Orton Matchmaking, More Quick Takes
Amid all the excellent in-ring action and the two title changes, Will Ospreay officially put pen to paper with All Elite Wrestling at Full Gear on Saturday night, becoming one of the promotion's biggest and most promising signings to date.
While he doesn't have Adam Copeland's notoriety or Sting's legacy, his ceiling for success is incredibly high, and at only 30 years old, he's only begun to scratch the surface of what he can do at the mainstream level.
He'll be as great of a get for AEW in the coming months as Randy Orton will be for WWE upon his imminent return to television. His 18-month-long hiatus allows him to feel fresh again and inject new life into whatever brand he ultimately lands on.
However, there's one Superstar in particular who would make the most sense for him to target once he resurfaces, and it's possible that program starts to take shape as soon as Survivor Series passes.
This installment of Quick Takes will tackle Orton's first feud back, Kenny Omega being overdue for a singles run, why The Street Profits should be the next undisputed WWE tag team champions, and more.
Will Ospreay Can Be a Franchise Player for AEW in 2024 and Beyond
1 of 5AEW has been fortunate to secure countless top talents in the last five years, beginning with The Elite, Chris Jericho and MJF upon its inception along with Adam Copeland, CM Punk, Bryan Danielson and Sting in the years that followed.
With where Will Ospreay is at in his career, he has the potential to be one of the smartest signings in the promotion's short history if it plays its cards right.
Of course, he has already made a number of appearances for AEW over the last year and has built-in exposure with the audience. In addition to being a once-in-a-lifetime performer, he's elevated every aspect of his game in recent years and proved himself to be a perennial main event player.
For as deep of a roster as AEW boasts, it has struggled with settling on younger stars it can build around. MJF has been the best booked of them all, but Ospreay can join him at that level.
That's only if AEW can stay the course with him and ensure he doesn't get lost in the shuffle as so many others have in the past. A hot debut is obviously ideal, but it's all about the follow-up and keeping him in the upper echelon of the card at all times.
Kenny Omega Overdue for a Permanent Return to Singles Competition
2 of 5Kenny Omega has had a consistent story throughout the year having lost a majority of the marquee matches he's been involved in and being betrayed by his manager, Don Callis, but singles competition has largely alluded him.
Omega and Konosuke Takeshita stole the show with their stellar outing at All Out in early September, while his instant classic with MJF for the AEW World Championship on Collision last month is regarded as one of the company's best bouts of the year.
Instead of riding that wave of momentum, he returned to the tag team division to partner with Chris Jericho and form The Golden Jets. With their win over The Young Bucks at Full Gear, they've earned themselves a future shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championship.
Even if the idea is for it to be part of a program with The Don Callis Family, Omega has nothing more to prove alongside the Bucks, Jericho or anyone else. At 40, he could be following in the footsteps of Bryan Danielson and intend to wind down as a full-time competitor, which is why AEW should be looking to make the most of him while he's healthy and active.
There's a laundry list of stars on the stacked roster he hasn't mixed it up with and fresh feuds he has yet to have. The Golden Jets should be temporary so Omega can be primed for bigger and better things.
Street Profits Capturing WWE Tag Titles Would Be Step Forward for Tag Team Division
3 of 5The Street Profits have been slowly but surely finding their footing as heels these past few months, and with Bobby Lashley at the helm, they've established themselves as a dominant force on Friday nights.
With their rivalry with The LWO behind them, it's time for the trio to take the next step forward. That should involve the Profits becoming undisputed WWE tag team champions.
By virtue of their victory on last week's SmackDown, they will challenge The Judgment Day the night before Survivor Series for the twin titles. That would be an appropriate time to do the switch while the group's focus is on WarGames.
For as well as The Judgment Day work together, they've done little to elevate the tag team division during their reign. It's a spot the Profits are no strangers to themselves, but being heels would make another title run different from the rest.
The Brawling Brutes, The New Day, The Creed Brothers and DIY are all teams they can defend against in high-profile matchups if they can become champs once again, whereas the belts have been an afterthought while in possession of Judgment Day and need new owners pronto.
Toni Storm, Julia Hart Are Perfect to Lead AEW Women's Scene
4 of 5It's no secret that the women's division has long been AEW's Achilles heel, and although there remains plenty of room for improvement, the strides Toni Storm and Julia Hart have made in their respective roles recently give fans a reason to be optimistic for the future.
Storm benefited from losing the AEW Women's World Championship in August and taking the time to develop an all-new character for herself. It's caught fire to where it would have been asinine for the title to be around anyone's waist but hers post-Full Gear.
AEW also deserves credit for building up the TBS Championship scene these past six months and portraying Kris Statlander as such a strong titleholder, making it mean that much more when Hart dethroned her over the weekend.
Hart has improved immensely, both as a wrestler and as a character, since getting more opportunities to shine on her own. Storm has turned into one of AEW's hottest acts while Hart is evolving into a legitimate homegrown star for them.
They're the perfect people for AEW to be getting behind as the faces of the women's division. The returns of Jamie Hayter and Thunder Rosa at some point should also shake things up considerably and give them credible competition.
Shinsuke Nakamura Is Ideal First Foe for Returning Randy Orton
5 of 5Shinsuke Nakamura's exemplary heel work over the last three months has not only reinvigorated his once-stagnant character but also given Raw a believable bad guy who can gel with just about anyone.
Despite falling short of beating Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship on back-to-back events, he's remained relevant by getting consistent mic time and decisively defeating every opponent put in the ring with him, all while addressing an unknown individual through cryptic promos.
That mysterious star should soon be revealed to be Randy Orton.
There's a high chance The Viper finds his way into WarGames and is recruited by Cody Rhodes on the final Raw ahead of Survivor Series, but his first full-fledged feud back should be with someone as established as Nakamura.
Beating The King of Strong Style would mean something given how protected he's been on the whole as of late, not to mention the strong in-ring chemistry they're bound to have.
It would be an excellent use of both Orton and Nakamura as well as giving the red brand another top storyline for fans to get invested in as 2023 comes to a close.
