AEW Rampage Results: Winners, Live Grades, Reaction, Highlights From Nov. 3

Doc-Chris MuellerNov 3, 2023

Welcome to Bleacher Report's live coverage and recap of AEW Rampage on November 3.

This week's show featured a huge triple threat match between three of the top luchadors in the business today when Vkingo, Komander and Penta El Zero Miedo.

The Gunns were in tag team action against Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal, Skye Blue took on Marina Shafir, and Daniel Garcia battled Trent Beretta.

Let's take a look at everything that happened on Friday's show.

Vikingo vs. Penta vs. Komander

Unsurprisingly, this week's show opened with all three competitors already in the ring and ready to go for the first match of the night.

Penta came out of the gate hot with a dropkick to Komander, but Vikingo was right there to get on him as soon as Penta got to his feet.

If you like high-flying lucha libre action, this match overserved you. If you don't like this kind of match, the mistakes and ill-timed moments likely stuck out a bit more.

This was a fun and energetic match, but it had a handful of near-botches that kept it from being as good as it could have been. If they had slowed down by 2%, they may have had a couple more seconds to set up certain spots better and execute specific moves with more precision.

The things these three men can do are otherworldly sometimes, so the exciting spots they hit tend to make fans forgive the smaller mistakes. The second half definitely showed all three men in a better light.

After all three men had hit just about every high spot they could think of, Penta scored the win by pinning Komander.

Result: Penta El Zero Miedo defeated Komander and Vikingo

Grade: B+

Notable Moments and Observations

  • Komander missed a kick by quite a few inches but Penta still sold it.
  • Vikingo's gear is so unique, especially compared to other luchadors. He really stands out.
  • Penta was a split second late breaking up a pin, so it looked a little awkward when the ref had to slow their count.
  • Penta countering a shooting star press with a codebreaker was a fantastic spot.
  • Penta showed a lot of power when he had Vikingo on his back and Komander held in a package piledriver.

The Gunns vs. Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal

The second match of the night was a tag team bout between The Gunns and the duo of Daniels and Sydal, who have been more active in Ring of Honor as of late.

Austin and Colten had Juice Robinson and Jay White at ringside, so the babyfaces were at an instant disadvantage.

For the first few minutes, this was a pretty uneventful and down-the-middle tag team match. Both sides got in a few good spots and nobody from BCG interfered.

In fact, The Gunns won without Robinson or White needing to do anything for them. The Gunns picked up a pretty clean win with the 3:10 to Yuma. This was a decent match but it would be hard for anyone to follow the spot fest that came before this.

Result: The Gunns defeated Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal

Grade: C+

Notable Moments and Observations

  • Bullet Club Gold has the best entrance in pro wrestling right now. It's not even close.
  • Sydal and Daniels didn't have a televised entrance, so it was kind of obvious how this match would end before it started.
  • Why does seeing Sydal with short hair make us want to call him Evan Bourne again?
  • Cardblade is in rough shape. It might be time to order a new one.
  • The backstage segment with Danhausen and RJ City was funny.

Skye Blue vs. Marina Shafir

Blue came out for this match with the same black eye makeup she has been sporting recently, but she seemed a little bit more like her old self.

She and Shafir started off with a handshake that turned into both women trying different things to hurt each other while they still had their hands clasped together.

Despite Shafir having a lot more fighting experience, Blue was showing a lot of aggression and getting in a fair amount of offense.

Shafir hasn't had a ton of TV time but the improvements she has made over the past year or two were on full display here. She seemed a lot more comfortable and more fluid when going from move to move.

Despite Shafir's best efforts, Blue picked up the clean win.

Result: Skye Blue defeated Marina Shafir

Grade: B-

Notable Moments and Observations

  • We got another exchange with Angelo Parker and Ruby Soho during a backstage segment.
  • Shafir not flinching when Blue was stomping on her bare foot was impressive.
  • Kicking the apron with a bare foot cannot feel pleasant.

Trent Beretta vs. Daniel Garcia

The main event of this week's show saw Beretta take on Garcia. Chuck Taylor was absent this week but Garcia came out solo, too, so it was an even matchup.

Beretta had a significant experience advantage but on a physical level, these two have a lot of similarities. Garcia favors a more technical style while Beretta has more of an all-encompassing style of wrestling, so they meshed well together.

This was a highly competitive match that showed off the strengths of both men. The opener might have been more exciting because of the high-flying moves being performed, but as a whole, this was the best match of the night on a technical level.

After both men left everything they had in the ring, Garcia was able to secure the victory after giving the fans what they wanted with the dance and making Beretta tap out.

Garcia called out MJF after the bout for a title shot because he wanted to jump the line. He gave a great promo to end the show.

Result: Daniel Garcia defeated Trent Beretta

Grade: B+

Notable Moments and Observations

  • The backstage segments with Ruby and Parker earlier in the show made it look like both of them might turn face and leave their tag partners soon.
  • Best Friends' entrance video is the best because it's mostly just quick shots of dogs.
  • Garcia's new gear is a big improvement over the plain white or red pants.
  • Garcia pausing when he was going to call himself a pro wrestler was a fun little moment. It feels like this will build into him finally calling himself a pro wrestler again at some point.

The Final Word

5 of 5

On paper, this looked like a pretty average episode of Rampage. There were not titles on the line, not feud-ending matches and no appearances scheduled for top stars.

What we ended up getting was a better-than-average episode that was timed out perfectly to give every match and segment the amount of time that felt appropriate.

The triple threat match that opened the show was exciting, but the main event was definitely the Match of the Night, especially when you include Garcia's post-fight promo.

Making an hour-long show that is sandwiched between AEW's two weekly two-hour shows feel important is difficult, but this week's show was a solid entry.
