2012 NFL Draft: Dallas Cowboys Full 7-Round Predictions

Jason HenryJun 7, 2018

It's never to early for a mock draft, right? The Dallas Cowboys are out of the playoffs and nothing else is moving this offseason besides Terence Newman and his hurdles. See what I did there?

Anyway, the 'Boys' attention must now turn toward free agency and the draft. Everyone believes that Dallas should draft a cover corner and they would be right. Everyone would also be correct in thinking that Dallas needs help on the offensive and defensive line as well as adding a team psychiatrist.

These Cowboys aren't your nephew's Cowboys team from a few seasons ago that went 13-3; this group is much worse. This team is like a BMW 745 that you can find on a buy-here pay-here lot that has engine trouble that you won't find until you've bought the car and drove it for about five months.

In order to fix the engine, Dallas needs to add a few new moving parts.

Here is a quick seven-round mock draft that is sure to whet your offseason whistle.

First Round: Dre Kirkpatrick, Cornerback, Alabama

1 of 7

He's a 'Bama kid so you know Nick Saban has him primed and ready to go. Of course, that doesn't mean that he'll be an automatic slam dunk in the NFL but he's worth a shot.

Dre is 6'3" and 192 pounds of potential lockdown-corner status. He may be snatched up before he gets to Dallas at No. 14, but I think the Cowboys most definitely need a corner.

Second Round: Vinny Curry, Defensive End, Marshall

2 of 7

The 'Boys can probably find a defensive end later in the draft but Curry is a speed-rusher and Dallas needs that.

There is a problem with Curry, as he's a 4-3 player and would have to make a grand adjustment to playing in the 3-4.

Third Round: Brandon Mosley, Tackle, Auburn

3 of 7

Mosley was recently added to the 2012 Senior Bowl, and rightfully so. He gets a chance to show off his skills for NFL scouts.

He’s played left and right tackle and weighs 305 pounds, standing at 6’6". I think that Dallas could use his size and movement.

Fourth Round: Cliff Harris, CB, Oregon

4 of 7

Could be a trouble-maker as he was dismissed from the Ducks for violating team rules. But Harris is a colorful guy—see “I’m the cheese on top of the nachos” quote.

In 2009 he returned four punts for touchdowns and broke up 23 passes. I think he’s worth a look.

Fifth Round: Brett Roy, Defensive Tackle, Nevada

5 of 7

I like this guy the more I read about him. He’s 280 and stands at 6’3”, so he’s light on his feet. According to NFLDraftScout.com, he notched 10 sacks and 64 tackles.

The downside is that he would more than likely switch to end because he’s not heavy enough to play nose. If he’s drafted as a nose then it may be a wasted pick, as Dallas has Jay Ratliff to play that position at Roy’s size.

Sixth Round: Tahir Whitehead, Linebacker, Temple

6 of 7

Not going to front and state that I know all there is to know about Tahir Whitehead. But he was named to the All-MAC second team and ended 2011 with five sacks and four forced fumbles.

He seems to be a playmaker and if so, Dallas can use his ability.

Seventh Round: Antoine McClain, Guard, Clemson

7 of 7

He's a big guy standing at 6'5" and 320 pounds. He's ranked as the 19th-best guard on the positions board for ESPN.com.

Dallas needs depth and adding another large, athletic offensive lineman could help.
