Auburn Football Recruiting: The 7 Best Recruits Still out There for the Tigers
Auburn is fresh off a Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl win over Virginia, and the program is feeling good. The Tigers were a young team last year but are stockpiled with great promising talent.
Gene Chizik has recruited extremely well during his tenure on The Plains, and this 2012 cycle is another one. Auburn has 16 commitments that are good quality, and the Tigers aren't done.
Here are the top seven best prospects that Auburn could still land.
7. Cyrus Jones, WR/RB/DB
1 of 7Cyrus Jones, a 5'11", 185-pound speedster that can play WR, RB, DB and returner. His game is based on speed and quickness.
Jones is a playmaker with the ball in his hands, but also could be a top flight CB.
He tripped to Auburn last month and had a great time, enjoying the atmosphere there and now has Auburn in his top three.
Alabama and Virginia Tech are also in the mix.
6. Channing Ward, DE
2 of 7Ward is a big and long DE prospect at 6'4", 240 pounds, and I think he's going to bulk up to over 255-pounds in college. He's very strong but also has good quickness off the ball.
Some even say Ward can play the rush end position in a 3-4 defense. He's one of the top recruits in the country, and wherever he goes, he should be a headliner going in and coming out.
LSU, Alabama, Mississippi State and Ole Miss are also in the hunt.
5. Avery Young, OT
3 of 7Young is a 6'6", 275-pound OT prospect who could play the LT position in college. He's very athletic, long and flashes some strength.
Young can fit in any blocking scheme due to his athleticism and toughness.
Auburn leads Alabama, Georgia and Florida right now.
4. Arik Armstead, DE
4 of 7Armstead feels he's a DE and would like to stay there, but he also shows the skill set of a franchise OT. Scout.com has him as their No.1 overall prospect.
Armstead is a huge DE at 6'8" and 280 pounds. He's also a great athlete, strong at the point of attack, has good feet, can close and can set the edge against run
Cal, Texas, Oregon and Notre Dame are also in the mix.
3. Eddie Goldman, DT
5 of 7Goldman is a DT who can pretty much play almost all of the DL positions in football. From 4-3 DT to 3-4 DE, I can put Goldman everywhere except 4-3 weak-side DE.
He stands with a 6'4", 305-pound frame and has play strength, snap quickness and anchor ability to stop the run. Goldman can also push the pocket from the middle and has a fight to pressure as a pass-rusher.
FSU, Miami, Alabama, Maryland, Cal and Clemson are also after him.
2. Stefon Diggs, WR
6 of 7Diggs may be the most versatile and special all-around offensive weapon in the country.
At 6'0" and 190 pounds, he is a quicker-than-fast athlete who can play WR, RB, DS and CB, while also returning punts and kicks.
Diggs has a ton of schools after him and will be a hot name on the trail, but an even hotter player in college.
Florida, Florida State, USC, Oklahoma, Michigan and Maryland are just a few to name in the Diggs sweepstakes.
1. Kwon Alexander, LB
7 of 7At 6'2" and 210 pounds, Alexander defines the term "sideline to sideline," as he can beat RBs to holes and OLs with angles.
Alexander can also factor as a blitzer, and stay on the field in passing situations with ease due to his easy change of direction to cover RBs and TEs.
Alabama, LSU and Florida State are also in the race.
