Warriors Rumors: Bob Myers Offered Contract Extension to Become NBA's Highest-Paid GM
The Golden State Warriors are believed to have offered Bob Myers a contract extension that would make him the NBA's highest-paid general manager, according to C.J. Holmes of the San Francisco Chronicle.
The 48-year-old's current contract with the Warriors expires June 30.
Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle reported last week that Warriors owner Joe Lacob had "already offered Myers multiple contract extensions that would put him among the league's highest-paid executives."
Letourneau added that Myers "just isn't sure what he wants to do."
The Athletic's Shams Charania and Anthony Slater reported Wednesday that Myers and the Warriors "have had no substantial contract extension talks in months" and are "bracing for the likelihood" that he will depart the franchise this summer.
If he does remain with the Warriors, league personnel expect Myers' next contract to be worth more than $10 million per season, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
Myers was noncommittal on remaining in Golden State while making an appearance on 95.7 The Game prior to the team's Game 6 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers last week in the Western Conference semifinals (h/t the San Francisco Chronicle).
"Somebody smarter a long time ago gave me advice: Don't make a decision until you have to," Myers said.
Holmes added in his latest report that Myers will not make his decision on whether or not to return to the Warriors based on financials alone.
"Myers is known as a family man, with three young daughters. There's a belief that if he does walk away from the Warriors, it wouldn't necessarily be to take a job elsewhere, but rather to spend more time with his family and take a break from the daily demands of his role," Holmes wrote.
Myers has served as Golden State's general manager and president of basketball operations since 2012. He is the architect behind the team's long-spanning dynasty that has included four NBA titles dating back to 2015.
If Myers opts to move on from the Warriors, it's unclear how the franchise intends to pivot.
This is a massive offseason for the Dubs as Draymond Green can opt out of his $27.6 million player option for the 2023-24 campaign. Additionally, Klay Thompson has an "expectation" that he will be "rewarded" with a maximum extension this summer after a solid performance to close out the second half of the 2022-23 regular season, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
