Joe Fournier Appeals Controversial KO Loss to KSI; Says He Was Hit with Illegal Elbow
Joe Fournier suffered a controversial second-round knockout loss to YouTuber KSI on Saturday, but he believes he still has something to fight for.
According to TMZ Sports, the Professional Boxing Association announced Monday that Fournier is appealing his loss because he says he was knocked out by an illegal elbow and not a punch.
Fournier, who is an English businessman with a 9-0 (1 NC) pro boxing record, met KSI in the main event of Saturday's event held at the OVO Arena in London. Early in the second round, KSI landed an overhand right that wobbled Fournier, and when he went in for the finish, it appeared that his forearm caught Fournier square on the chin.
KSI addressed the situation in a tweet, describing the knockout victory as an "inevitable" outcome while admitting that the win was "tarnished."
"After landing my overhand he was pretty much out on his feet and I went for a short right hook as Joe clinched me and fell into me," KSI stated. "I landed that hook and my glove made contact but appears to have been followed by unintentional contact with my forearm. I'm gutted that it's not as clean a win as I wanted and it feels like it diminishes my hard work with my trainers."
The 29-year-old moved to 4-0 in exhibition fights, but there's a chance the win is changed to a no contest.
Either way, a swift decision can be expected, as the PBA said it expects to make a ruling on Fournier's appeal by Friday.
