2012 Winter Classic Video: Watch Henrik Lundqvist Save Game for Rangers
New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist saved the 2012 Winter Classic for his team when he stopped Philadelphia Flyers forward Danny Briere's penalty shot attempt with 19.6 seconds remaining in the third period.
Briere tried to beat Lundqvist 5-hole but was denied. You can't really fault Briere on this failed shot because there aren't many ways to beat Lundqvist, who is an elite goaltender.
Just before the penalty shot, the Flyers had a few amazing chances to beat Lundqvist as the puck was sitting in the blue paint in his crease while he was trying to smother it with his pad.

They were awarded the penalty shot immediately after those chances when the referees determined that Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh touched the puck with his glove when it was right at the goal line behind Lundqvist while the Rangers goalie was sprawled out on the ice.
It was a questionable call that shouldn't have been made, but the Rangers prevailed with the brilliant poise of Lundqvist, who is not afraid of playing under immense pressure.
The Swedish star is arguably the NHL's best goaltender, and he came up huge for the Rangers after the Flyers took a 2-0 lead in the second period.
Lundqvist made 33 saves in the game and has been magnificent all season. He is the primary reason why the Rangers are second in the NHL in goals against per game.
With the victory over the Flyers, the Rangers are now 3-0 against their rivals from Philadelphia this season and are atop the Eastern Conference standings with 52 points.
