76ers Rumors: Furkan Korkmaz Requests Trade Ahead of 2023 Deadline

Joseph ZuckerFeb 6, 2023

Philadelphia 76ers guard Furkan Korkmaz has requested a trade from the team, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey.

In response to the rumor, Korkmaz said he "would not confirm nor deny" the story.

The 25-year-old has made 25 appearances this season, and he's averaging 3.8 points and shooting 34.3 percent on three-pointers.

Korkmaz previously requested a trade in October 2018, citing the uncertainty over his role in Philly. He wound up staying and signed a partially guaranteed two-year deal in July 2019 before getting a three-year, $15 million extension ahead of the 2021-22 season.

This time around, his trade request could be similarly unsuccessful but for different reasons.

The 6'7" wing has fallen almost entirely out of the Sixers rotation. The Turkey native has played in three of the team's last 12 games, logging seven minutes.

As a standalone piece, you wouldn't expect Korkmaz to have a ton of value. He's a career reserve who's neither a dynamic scorer (7.5 points per game) nor a consistent three-point specialist (35.4 percent).

In the event Korkmaz is moved before Thursday's deadline, he and his $5 million salary will likely be included purely to make a deal work financially. Absent that, he'll have to finish out the season in Philadelphia.
