It doesn't get much better in college basketball than beating the No. 1 team in the country, who happens to be a hated rival, on your home court.
Indiana's win over Purdue wasn't extremely surprising—All-America candidate Trayce Jackson-Davis came through with 25 points, seven rebounds and five blocks—but it ended the Boilermakers' nine-game winning streak.
Purdue wasn't penalized for the loss and remained No. 1, although Indiana moved up from 21st to 18th despite losing to Maryland earlier in the week.
The Big Ten battle was one of several notable matchups between ranked teams Saturday:
Tennessee survived an ugly battle against Auburn on Saturday, escaping with a 46-43 victory, although an earlier road loss to Florida was enough to drop the Volunteers from No. 2 to No. 6.
Houston didn't have as much trouble, earning a pair of conference road wins to remain undefeated this season away from home. The 81-65 win over Temple on Sunday also avenged one of its two losses this year.
Arizona is on the rise after improving to 21-3 with six straight wins. The Wildcats beat Oregon and Oregon State this week by a combined 47 points and have been playing as well as any team in college basketball since a stumble in January.
Texas is up five spots to No. 5 after a big week, winning at home against Baylor before stealing a road win against Kansas State. The Longhorns trailed by 11 points at halftime against Kansas State before coming away with a 69-66 victory as five players reached double figures.
The Big 12 gauntlet will continue for Texas on Monday with a road game against Kansas.
Saint Mary's was another big riser in the poll after a 78-70 win over WCC rival Gonzaga. Aidan Mahaney took over down the stretch and helped the Gaels improve to 10-0 in conference play, climbing to No. 15.
Many top teams will be tested in the coming week, including Alabama with a home matchup against Florida before traveling to face Auburn. Duke will battle Virginia, while nearly every game in the Big 12 has become must-see television.
