Michigan Football Recruiting 2023: Top Remaining Recruits, Class Predictions
What's become a dramatic offseason in Ann Arbor will reach a key winter landmark on national signing day.
And it should provide a chance to take a much-needed breath.
Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh again thought about NFL jobs, and the Wolverines have put themselves into the headlines with a couple of negative stories. After news broke of an NCAA investigation into possible recruiting violations, Michigan fired co-offensive coordinator Matt Weiss for alleged computer access crimes.
Although the Wolverines have largely moved onto the 2024 recruiting cycle, one final 5-star in 2023 is still on the radar.
Top Signees
1 of 3Enow Etta, DL
The highest-ranked signee in the class is Enow Etta, a 4-star defensive lineman from Texas. Etta, who checks in 106th nationally, visited Ann Arbor in June 2022 and committed to Michigan only a few weeks later.
Cole Cabana, RB
One of four in-state pledges for the Wolverines, Cole Cabana adds to a deep backfield. Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards will headline the position in 2023, but Cabana is an exciting player. He totaled 2,434 all-purpose yards and 36 touchdowns as a high school senior.
Jyaire Hill, CB
Michigan received some great news during the early signing period when Jyaire Hill picked the Maize and Blue. Hill is ranked 172nd nationally—one spot behind Cabana—and, like the 4-star running back, participating in College Football Playoff practices after enrolling early.
Key Targets
2 of 3
Nyckoles Harbor, ATH
Michigan is the most prestigious option left for Nyckoles Harbor, given that Maryland, Oregon and South Carolina are his other suitors. However, those programs are appealing for Harbor—a potential tight end or edge-rusher—because the 5-star athlete also has Olympic dreams as a sprinter.
Cameron Brandt, DL
Stanford coach David Shaw's resignation led Cameron Brandt to delay his signing. Michigan capitalized on its unexpected window, bringing in the 3-star defensive lineman for an official visit in January.
Jamel Howard, DL
In mid-November, Jamel Howard decommitted from Wisconsin. He also decided not to sign in December, which allowed a pair of Southeast schools—LSU and Miami—to join Midwest programs Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin in the chase for the 3-star defensive lineman.
Class Prediction
3 of 3
It's hard to overstate the impact of landing Harbor, who would considerably bolster Michigan's class in 2023.
The more likely outcome is that he heads elsewhere, though.
Howard also appears to be trending away from the Wolverines, who need to overcome late-arriving LSU. Recruitments of this nature have a habit of not favoring the previous favorites on signing day.
That exact scenario is reason to believe Michigan can sway Brandt from his Stanford pledge. He'd become the Wolverines' second-highest-rated addition among five defensive linemen.
