2012 NFL Draft Order: Andrew Luck a Lock at No.1 with Colts Loss
It's official, next season the Indianapolis Colts will easily boast the most talented quarterback play in the NFL.
The Colts are now officially a lock for the No. 1 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, as Stanford QB Andrew Luck is now destined to go first.
In what was arguably the worst season in franchise history, the Colts seemed to be able to get little done on offense all season long. The team's 15.8 points scored per game ranked No. 28 in the league this season, while the team's 286.1 yards per game earned them the 30th ranked offense in the league.
Quarterbacks Dan Orlovsky and Curtis Painter never seemed to be able to get things going offensively, as the two combined for less than 3,000 yards this season while throwing just 12 touchdowns.
Yet with a healthy Peyton Manning, a player who will go down as one of the better quarterbacks to ever play the game, the Colts immediately rise back to the top of the league offensively.
Faced with both the No. 1 pick and a returning Manning, it still would seem the Colts are looking to draft Andrew Luck, as he is hands down the most talented player coming out of this year's draft class.
This season with Stanford, Luck threw for 3,170 yards on the season and 35 touchdowns through the air. His 35 touchdowns rank No. 5 in Division I college football.
Not to mention, if he is to be taken by the Colts and then dealt to another team, this is a team that will receive significant value in exchange for Luck.
Drafting Luck and having him start would be a major positive for a struggling Colts season.
Luck would also be a positive addition on the bench because he could possibly learn from Manning and receive mentoring, much like the Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre situation in Green Bay.
As he is a special talent and valuable prospect coming out of the draft, the Colts are set to be in a win-win situation by taking Luck with the first pick, despite the fact that Manning will be coming back next season.
