Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Week 13: Rounding Up Latest Expert Advice on the Web
There are plenty of difficult start/sit decisions for fantasy football managers heading into Week 13 of the 2022 NFL season. And for many, the pressure is on to get them right.
A packed slate of action is on the way this weekend, as there will be 13 games taking place Sunday, followed by a Monday night matchup between the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Only two teams have byes this week: the Arizona Cardinals and the Carolina Panthers.
Some fantasy managers are trying to push their way into a playoff berth without much time left to do so. In most leagues, there are only two weeks to go in the fantasy regular season, and then the postseason will get underway in Week 15.
So with crunch time now here, let's take a look at some start/sit advice from several fantasy experts around the web.
Start 'Em: Dameon Pierce, RB, Houston Texans
1 of 3
Dameon Pierce's lack of production the past two weeks may have some fantasy managers ready to give up on the Texans rookie running back. Over that span, he has 15 carries for 16 yards and five catches for 17 yards.
But Pierce had been a consistently strong fantasy performer for most of the year prior to that. And as Michael Fabiano of Sports Illustrated pointed out, Houston has a great matchup this week against the Cleveland Browns for Pierce to get back on track.
"Their defense has allowed the third-most fantasy points to running backs, including a league-high 16 total touchdowns," Fabiano wrote. "Keep the faith in the rookie for at least this week."
With the Browns also averaging 131.5 rushing yards allowed per game, Pierce appears to have a great opportunity to put up some better numbers. But if he doesn't? Then it may be time to find better options than the 22-year-old in the weeks to follow.
Sit 'Em: Curtis Samuel, WR, Washington Commanders
2 of 3
Terry McLaurin's fantasy value has gone up since Taylor Heinicke took over as the Commanders' starting quarterback. That hasn't been the case for all of Washington's wide receivers, though.
The Commanders are running the ball a lot, and although Samuel sometimes gets involved in the rushing attack, it isn't enough to offset his lack of production in the passing game. That's why NFL.com's Michael Florio doesn't think Samuel can be trusted in fantasy lineups.
"Samuel has averaged just 3.7 targets and 2.3 catches per game with Taylor Heinicke as the starter," Florio wrote. "Since Heinicke took over in Week 7, Samuel has just 206 receiving yards, which would be a 17-game pace of 584 yards."
Plus, Washington receivers don't have a great matchup this week against the New York Giants, who are giving up the fourth-fewest points per game to WRs, per NFL.com. So there's no reason to take a chance on Samuel in Week 13, especially because most fantasy managers should have more viable starting options.
Start 'Em: Tyler Conklin, TE, New York Jets
3 of 3
Tyler Conklin spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings. Now, the 27-year-old tight end is set to go up against his former team for the first time in Week 13. And he could have a strong showing in this revenge game.
The Jets made a quarterback switch last week, turning from Zach Wilson to Mike White. That led to a solid showing from Conklin, who had three catches for 50 yards in a win over the Chicago Bears. Jamey Eisenberg of CBS Sports believes that Conklin could build off that performance this week.
"It's a good matchup for Conklin against his former team since Minnesota has allowed four touchdowns to tight ends in the past six games," Eisenberg wrote.
Conklin hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 8. So this seems like the perfect opportunity for him to get back into the end zone, especially because New York may have to pass the ball a good bit to try to keep up with Minnesota.
