Raiders' Rooting Guide for 2022 NFL Draft Implications of Week 13
The Las Vegas Raiders pulled themselves up to a crowded collection of four-win teams with consecutive overtime wins.
The victories over the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks dropped the Raiders in the projected order for the 2023 NFL draft.
Las Vegas enters Week 13 with the No. 9 overall pick, and it sits right in the middle of the 10-team group with four victories.
The Raiders may not have to worry about the three-win Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers picking up wins since they still have to play both teams.
The hope for Las Vegas is that a majority of those four-win teams pick up multiple victories so that the space is cleared for it to jump back into the top five.
A Sunday defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers would help the Raiders' draft stock, and a few other results in their favor could get them closer to the top five.
Browns over Texans
1 of 3
A Cleveland Browns win over the Houston Texans in Deshaun Watson's return is probably the easiest result to predict in favor of the Raiders.
Las Vegas has to hope most of the 4-7 squads win this week, or in the coming weeks, to drop the number of four-win teams.
There are a quartet of 4-8 teams ahead of Las Vegas in the draft order going into Week 13. Arizona and Carolina have byes this week, while New Orleans and Green Bay are off next week.
Cleveland should overpower the Houston defense in some capacity, whether it be with Watson through the air, or with the Nick Chubb-Kareem Hunt duo on the ground.
Houston likely will not win multiple games for the rest of the season, so the Raiders would rather have the Browns beat the Texans to move up to five wins than hold out dwindling hope for the No. 1 overall pick.
Lions over Jaguars
2 of 3
The Raiders would rather see the Detroit Lions go to five wins over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Las Vegas already has a head-to-head loss to Jacksonville that could help it if the draft order comes down to tiebreakers.
The Raiders are in front of both teams in the projected draft order because of their strength of schedule.
Detroit also may not win anytime soon if it does not take down Jacksonville at home.
The Lions play the Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets in Weeks 14 and 15, and they face the Packers in Week 18.
The opportunities for Detroit victories are running out fast, and the Raiders would prefer if they do not have to worry about the Lions deeper into the season.
Las Vegas finishes with the Chargers, Rams, New England, Pittsburgh, San Francisco and Kansas City.
The Raiders may not win another game this season, and if they do, they may peak at five wins. They need Detroit to be more competitive on Sunday so that the prospect of two sides being on the same record diminishes.
Packers over Bears
3 of 3
Aaron Rodgers owns a 23-5 career record against the Chicago Bears.
If Rodgers plays on Sunday, the Raiders could use a win out of the Packers quarterback to move up in the draft order.
Green Bay is one spot ahead of Las Vegas right now because it is 4-8 and does not have a bye until next week.
The Packers could still win a few games out of the bye and not be a concern for the Raiders, but the Raiders would rather have that happen on Sunday than wait for it.
Las Vegas can't jump Arizona and Carolina, both of whom are 4-8 and on Week 13 byes, and it seems unlikely the current version of the New Orleans Saints beats the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night.
That leaves the Packers as the one team the Raiders can trust to win and get out of their way in the projected order.
Las Vegas would ideally love to have the number of four-win teams cut by at least three on Sunday, and that can happen if the Browns and Packers win and if there is no tie in the Lions-Jaguars contest.
