Fantasy Football Week 6 Cheat Sheet: Identifying Sleepers for Deep Leagues
The waiver wire moves at ludicrous speed.
Earlier this week, Kenneth Walker III appeared like a prime target on the waiver wire following Rashaad Penny's season-ending ankle injury. Fast-forward just a few days, and Walker has essentially been snatched up everywhere (87 percent rostered in Yahoo leagues, per FantasyPros). If he's somehow still available, put this article on pause and go grab him.
Now, Walker is an extreme example, since it's not every week a likely featured back suddenly surfaces on the waiver wire. Still, it goes to show that if a player you like is up for grabs, you shouldn't hesitate to pounce.
With that in mind, let's spotlight a deep streamer—available in 50-plus percent of Yahoo leagues—at each of fantasy football's three marquee positions.
Quarterback: Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco 49ers (34 Percent Rostered)
1 of 3
Much like in real life, Garoppolo won't often be the reason your fantasy football team gets a win. When he is efficient and limiting mistakes, though, he can be a helpful part of a winning team.
The deeper this season probes, the more productive he becomes.
Each week, he has set a new season-high for passing yards. On Sunday, he threw a pair of touchdown passes for the first time. He also just went back-to-back games without an interception for the first time since last December.
If he's rounding into form as it seems, then he should be poised to take advantage of all the playmakers around him. A date with an Atlanta defense allowing the 10th-most fantasy points to quarterbacks, per Yahoo, could allow him to best his season-high passing yardage yet again.
Running Back: Mike Boone, Denver Broncos (36 Percent Rostered)
2 of 3
Javonte Williams' season-ending injury didn't stop Denver from coveting a two-headed monster at running back. Only, now it's Boone instead of Williams splitting carries and snaps with Melvin Gordon.
While Gordon leads this ground attack, the difference in opportunities is close enough to make both running backs fantasy-relevant, particularly if the Broncos lean heavier on the ground game with Russell Wilson battling a shoulder injury.
Last Thursday, Gordon handled a team-high 15 carries, but Boone wasn't too far behind with seven of his own. Each player was targeted three times and caught all three passes. Gordon finished with 103 scrimmage yards on 18 touches. Boone managed 85 yards on just 10 touches.
If their workload is anything similar in Week 6, both could run wild against the Chargers, who have allowed the most fantasy points to the position.
Wide Receiver: Michael Gallup, Dallas Cowboys (50 Percent Rostered)
3 of 3
Gallup is two weeks into his return from last season's ACL tear, and it feels like only a matter of time before he engineers a fantasy eruption.
The real reward might have to wait until Dak Prescott comes back, but since he's already throwing again, that could be coming soon.
Savvy fantasy managers will make their move for Gallup now, hope for the best as long as he's catching passes from Cooper Rush and prepare to rake in the fantasy riches once Prescott is back in action.
Gallup could have some fantasy utility in the meantime. In his first game back, he snagged a touchdown catch. In his second, he trailed only CeeDee Lamb in targets (five), receptions (four) and receiving yards (44). If the Cowboys have to air out more to keep up with the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend, Gallup's prominent role could yield his best output so far.
