Warriors' Draymond Green Won't Be Suspended for Altercation with Jordan Poole

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said Draymond Green will rejoin the team Thursday after voluntarily stepping away last week following a physical altercation with teammate Jordan Poole.

Kerr said Green received an undisclosed fine from the organization but won't be suspended ahead of the Dubs' regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday.

"This is the biggest crisis that we've had since I've been the coach here," Kerr told reporters. "It's really serious stuff. We're not perfect. ... But we're going to lean on the experience that we have together and trust that this is the best decision for our team. We have a lot of work to do. All of us."

The Warriors coach said he consulted with players, including Poole and franchise cornerstone Stephen Curry, about how to handle the situation.

Kerr said Poole is "willing to move forward and willing to get back out on the floor with Draymond and go to work."

"There is no way around it: [Our] culture has been damaged by this incident," Kerr said. "You have to work to repair that."

Green held a press conference last week before taking time away from the organization. He apologized to Poole and the guard's parents, and he explained some things going on in his personal life played a role in the training-camp altercation, telling reporters:

"I'm a very flawed human being, personally know those flaws better than anyone. The work that I've done to correct those flaws, I think, has been tremendous. Yet there's still a long way to go. ... The day that this took place, I was in a very, very bad space mentally, dealing with some things in my personal life that I, quite frankly, [can't say] that, that didn't shorten your temper, change your reaction."

The NBA never commented on the matter, allowing the Warriors to handle the situation internally.

Kerr said he expects Green will rejoin the Warriors lineup for their final preseason game Friday against the Denver Nuggets.

Golden State is setting out on its latest title defense, having captured its fourth championship since 2015 last season.
