Week 5 DraftKings, FanDuel Daily Fantasy Football Picks, Lineup Tips for Sunday
Week 5 of the 2022 NFL season got off to an underwhelming start with Thursday night's game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos.
That game featured little scoring, either on the field (seven field goals) or in fantasy. Of course, the beauty of playing daily fantasy sports (DFS) is that managers could skip that game entirely and jump straight to crafting Sunday lineups.
With several tough matchups and injuries to navigate—D'Andre Swift, Dak Prescott and Jahan Dotson are among the notable players who have been ruled out—finding the right lineups for a FanDuel or DraftKings budget won't be the easiest of tasks.
We're here to help by examining four fantastic matchups that shouldn't break the bank. They might not be full-on sleepers, but we're not here to examine high-priced must-start players either.
We'll dive into what makes these players solid options for Sunday and how they fit into the overall DFS strategy.
Joe Burrow, QB, Cincinnati Bengals
1 of 4
DFS Value: $6,700 at DraftKings, $7,800 at FanDuel
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow hasn't been particularly consistent this season, but he's shown glimpses of his late-2021 greatness over the past two weeks. He also happens to be a bit cheaper than quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes ($7,900 at DK) and Josh Allen ($8,200 at DK).
By saving a few fantasy dollars at the quarterback position, managers can squeeze two elite skill players into a lineup instead of one. Of course, this strategy only works if a quarterback is going to deliver. Burrow should do that.
Burrow and the Bengals are visiting a Baltimore Ravens team that quite frankly, stinks defensively. The Ravens rank 30th in total defense and dead-last in passing defense. Burrow, though, refuses to take Baltimore lightly.
"Their whole secondary has been playing really well for them," he said, per Geoff Hobson of the team's official website.
Expect Burrow to be laser-focused on winning a potential shootout with Lamar Jackson and the Ravens. This should lead to big DFS numbers.
James Robinson, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
2 of 4
DFS Value: $6,300 at DraftKings, $8,000 at FanDuel
We'll examine more of a budget option at running back, where Jacksonville Jaguars ball carrier James Robinson projects as a fantastic play.
Robinson's value is likely down because of his surprisingly light Week 4 workload. The 24-year-old logged only eight carries for 29 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles and finished without a reception.
The week before, however, Robinson logged 17 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown while making three receptions. Managers should expect a return to form this week against the Houston Texans.
While the Texans have made games respectable this season, they have yet to pick up a win. They've also been susceptible to the run, ranking just 31st in yards allowed and 26th in yards per attempt allowed.
Expect Jacksonville to pound the ball on the ground with Robinson and for the back to have his second strong performance in three weeks.
Terry McLaurin, WR, Washington Commanders
3 of 4
DFS Value: $6,200 at DraftKings, $6,500 at FanDuel
Pricey DFS receivers like Cooper Kupp ($9,600 at DK) and Stefon Diggs ($8,400 at DK) typically have one thing in common. They're the centerpieces of a passing attack. Managers can typically find great value by targeting one receiver who fills the same role on a less-prolific level.
McLaurin has been sharing targets with Curtis Samuel and Dotson, but with Dotson out (hamstring), he should be targeted by Carson Wentz early and often. He's already averaging just under seven targets per game.
The Commanders will be up against a Tennessee Titans defense had has struggled against the pass. Tennessee ranks 28th in yards allowed and 29th in yards per attempt surrendered. A repeat of last week's two-catch, 15-yard performance isn't going to happen.
Managers should expect numbers more in line with McLaurin's Week 3 production—he finished with six receptions and 102 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles.
This is a high-floor budget play, and there's a good chance that McLaurin finds the end zone as well. The Titans have allowed 10 passing touchdowns on the season, tied for the most in the NFL.
Gerald Everett, TE, Los Angeles Chargers
4 of 4
DFS Value: $4,200 at DraftKings, $6,300 at FanDuel
Targets are important for tight ends too, and Los Angeles Chargers pass-catcher Gerald Everett has been heavily targeted this season. He's had 22 passes thrown his way over the last three weeks—he caught five of them for 61 yards and a touchdown last week.
With wideout Keenan Allen out once again, this trend should continue.
This isn't a tremendous matchup for Everett, as the Browns have allowed the seventh-fewest fantasy points to opposing tight ends, according to FantasyPros.
However, Cleveland's defense has been prone to blown coverages this season, and it will surprise no one if the Chargers get a couple of long shots on busted plays. The Browns rank just 20th in yards per pass attempt allowed.
Everett is a high-floor budget option because of his PPR potential, and playing him might allow you to spend big at running back or receiver in Week 5.
