Fantasy Football Week 5 Cheat Sheet: Deep Sleepers Who Could Emerge
Injuries have been a big part of the 2022 NFL season thus far, and we'll see several absences impact Thursday night's game between the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts will be without star running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle), while Denver has placed running back Javonte Williams (ACL) on injured reserve.
In fantasy, key injuries often require a trip to the waiver wire. While many of this week's top pickups have already been claimed, some deep sleepers may still be available in your league.
Here, we'll dive into four potential wire targets that may be there for the taking and could be worth a last-minute flex play or a stash for future weeks. We'll also take one last look at the flex rankings for point-per-reception (PPR) scoring.

Tyler Allgeier, RB, Atlanta Falcons
2 of 5
Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier has been a popular pickup this week, which isn't surprising. The rookie had 10 carries and one reception against the Cleveland Browns last week and finished with 104 yards.
The Falcons also placed starting running back Cordarrelle Patterson (knee) on injured reserve.
This could lead to a big breakout opportunity for Allgeier, even against a tough Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense. The Bucs have typically been stout against the run but were gashed for 189 yards on the ground by the Kansas City Chiefs last week.
If Allgeier can have a solid outing in Week 5, he could emerge as an even bigger piece of the offensive game plan moving forward. While plenty of managers have claimed him, he's still only rostered in 56 percent of Yahoo leagues and 37 percent of ESPN leagues.
Brian Robinson Jr., RB, Washington Commanders
3 of 5
Washington Commanders rookie Brian Robinson Jr. may not make his debut this week against the Tennessee Titans. However, the preseason standout appears close to making his return after being shot multiple times during an armed robbery in late August.
Robinson was back at practice this week and, according to The Athletic's Peter Hailey, performed like a player who will contribute soon.
"While Robinson didn't want to fully commit to suiting up for his regular-season debut this Sunday versus the Titans, he called the practice a 'beautiful day' and sure sounded like a guy who's prepared to contribute on offense," Hailey wrote.
Now is a great time to scoop up Robinson, who is rostered in 60 percent of Yahoo leagues and only 40 percent of ESPN leagues. Robinson seemed poised to be Washington's starter during the preseason, and he should emerge as a regular contributor sooner than later.
Robinson probably isn't worth a start this week, but this may be your last chance to claim him.
Michael Gallup, WR, Dallas Cowboys
4 of 5
Dallas Cowboys wideout Michael Gallup made his 2022 debut in Week 4 against the Commanders. While he didn't exactly go off against Washington, the 26-year-old's return from a torn ACL was successful.
Gallup had two catches for 24 yards and a touchdown while playing just 64 percent of the offensive snaps, according to Pro Football Reference.
Managers should expect Gallup to emerge with a bigger role in Week 5, as he continues to get more comfortable with playing and with quarterback Cooper Rush. They should expect better numbers as a result.
The Cowboys are going up against a Los Angeles Rams team that has struggled against the pass. L.A. ranks 20th in passing yards allowed and 21st in net yards per attempt surrendered.
Gallup is still available in 49 percent of Yahoo and ESPN leagues.
Zay Jones, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars
5 of 5
Managers will want to watch the status of Jacksonville Jaguars wideout Zay Jones, who remains limited with an ankle injury and did not play in Week 4.
If Jones returns this week against the Houston Texans, however, he could emerge as a legitimate fantasy star. In Jones' last game, he caught 10 passes for 85 yards and a touchdown. He has 19 catches and 173 yards on the season.
The 27-year-old's stock is boosted by the improvement of second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence. He also has an established role as the No. 2 target opposite Christian Kirk. Jamal Agnew filled that role in Week 4 and caught four passes for 50 yards and two touchdowns.
The Texans, who rank 18th in passing yards allowed, are a decent matchup for Jones, who is readily available in most leagues. He's rostered in only 26 percent of Yahoo leagues and 35 percent of ESPN leagues.
