Updated 2023 NFL Draft Order After Sunday's Week 4 Results

Jake RillOct 3, 2022

The Las Vegas Raiders are no longer winless. They came out of Week 4 with a 32-23 victory over AFC West rival Denver Broncos, and they'll now look to build some momentum moving forward.

However, not every team has gotten into the win column in 2022. The Houston Texans, which opened the season with a tie vs. the Indianapolis Colts, have now lost three straight games after falling 34-24 to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

So, if the season ended today, the Texans would have the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. That's not the direction they wanted to trend after having the No. 3 selection last year.

But there's still plenty of time for Houston (and other struggling teams) to turn it around.

Let's take a look at how the draft order would stack up at this point in time, with only one Week 4 game (Monday night's Los Angeles Rams-San Francisco 49ers matchup) remaining.

When Will Texans Record 1st Victory?

Even though the Texans are winless, they haven't been getting blown out by their opponents. They tied with the Colts, 20-20, in Week 1, and none of their three losses have been by more than 10 points. So, there are reasons for Houston to be encouraged.

On Sunday, the Texans had a resilient showing against the Chargers. Although they trailed 27-7 at halftime, they scored 17 straight points in the second half to cut Los Angeles' lead to 27-24 with eight minutes and 30 seconds to go.

Houston rookie running back Dameon Pierce continued his breakout season, rushing for 131 yards and a touchdown.

This doesn't look like a team poised to go 0-16-1. There's enough talent on both sides of the ball to ensure it won't end up with the worst record in the NFL.

The Texans' next three games are against the Jaguars (2-2), Raiders (1-3) and Titans (2-2). Expect Houston to pick up its first victory at some point during that stretch.

Raiders Better Than Their Record Indicates

The Raiders may have been 0-3, but few people likely thought they were actually the worst team in the NFL.

They're in a tough AFC West division and have faced some challenging opponents early. Plus, they should have won in Week 2, when they blew a 16-point fourth-quarter lead against the Cardinals.

Las Vegas was impressive in its 32-23 victory over Denver on Sunday. Josh Jacobs ran for 144 yards and two touchdowns, Daniel Carlson made four field goals, and the Raiders never trailed after taking a lead early in the second quarter.

Things won't get easier for them from here, though. They have a challenging Week 5 road matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, so it's possible they will be 1-4 when their bye arrives in Week 6.

However, the Raiders will have more winnable matchups when they return to action after that. And if they can start building some momentum, they have the talent to make a push for the playoffs again this year.

Commanders' Issues May Not Get Corrected Soon

The Washington Commanders' new-look offense looked great in Week 1. It led a fourth-quarter comeback in a 28-22 win over the Jaguars, with Carson Wentz throwing four touchdown passes in his debut for the team.

Since then, though, things haven't gone nearly as well.

During its three-game losing streak, the Washington offense can't seem to get going. It has scored only seven first-half points during that stretch, and that came in the second quarter of Sunday's 25-10 loss to the Cowboys when Wentz threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Jahan Dotson.

Meanwhile, the rest of the NFC East is playing quite well. The Eagles are the only 4-0 team in the NFL, while the Giants and Cowboys are both 3-1.

For the 1-3 Commanders, the season may already be getting away from them. Even some of the upcoming matchups that seemed winnable are now much more daunting.

They might end up with an early pick in the 2023 NFL draft, which they may need to use on a quarterback.
