Ronda Rousey is Right, She Needs Paul Heyman to Reach Her Full Heel Potential in WWE
Ronda Rousey linking up with Paul Heyman in WWE would be a brilliant move for all parties—and especially fans.
This isn't a rare idea, of course. Fans have floated the pairing for a long time. Heyman's been known to attach himself to former MMA superstars who need a mouthpiece and serve as an advocate as they tear through the roster.
That fans would dream up this scenario isn't hard to understand. That WWE hasn't capitalized on it...sort of is.

Look no further than Rousey herself talking about this recently for proof.
During an appearance on The Baddest Stream on the Planet (h/t WrestlingInc's Kenny Herzog), Rousey said she would "without a doubt, without hesitation" link up with Heyman as her manager if prompted.
Rousey can see it too—the duo would immediately make for one of the most interesting things going in pro wrestling.
Few could argue the fact Rousey's time in WWE has been a tad deflated. Her arrival was met by fans with cautious optimism that immediately went the exceeded-expectations route because she was so good in the ring so quickly.
But Rousey has always been polarizing at best on the mic and in terms of character consistency from the very beginning. There has been notable friction between her and fans based on the latter's reception in the past.
This current run has continued that trend. Her character hasn't changed all too much and at times it has been hard to tell what direction she or the company want to go. It doesn't help that everyone knows how dangerous she is in the world of MMA, yet the booking has to get creative just to hand her believable losses.
Not long after Rousey returned in the women's Royal Rumble match this year, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t WrestlingInc's Matthew Wilkinson) reported that she had to work on the side with WWE officials about her promo work.
All of that which is to say Heyman solves many, many problems at once for Rousey. She's going fine as-is, but it's more of the same. In fact, it feels a little like the way Roman Reigns was headed before turning heel and Heyman stepped into his life to freshen things up a bit.
Rousey taking a backseat to Heyman in the promos department would remove any shred of inconsistencies in character or reactions. Fans know the deal. She's doing the bully-styled run through the roster already, but it could be a lot more impactful if it's narrated by Heyman, one of the best talkers in the history of the sport.
The storyline potential is just through the roof too. Heyman, ever the shady character who latches onto top Superstars who run roughshod throughout the company, would draw a ton of heat, especially when bringing his patented intros.
And while it has been flirted with plenty in the past, some of those mentioned problems when it comes to realistically booking Rousey to lose go away, too. Heyman getting in the way and/or making a mistake that causes palpable tension with the Superstar he reps would fit perfectly here to solve immediate in-ring issues.
The women's division could use a jolt, too. Yes, the new Triple H era has already started down this route with the Liv Morgan push and a few other examples. But there aren't a ton of overarching options right now to keep things fresh, especially with heavyweight names like Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks still in a limbo of sorts.
Plus, imagine what happens with Rousey goes on the understandable massive tear across the women's divisions on either weekly program, only to eventually get dethroned on a massive stage?
Rousey has already shown a willingness to put over the other women in the company on major stages in the past. But there's something different about an underdog story that upsets her on a massive stage while she's managed by Heyman. That's certainly one long-term way to establish another bonafide top Superstar for the women's division.
WWE doesn't need to rush that, of course. But now would be the time to get the ball rolling. Even just throwing out subtle hints about it over the next few weeks or months before winter really gets going feels like a sweetspot.
This is, after all, a soft sort of reset with a new direction for the company under Triple H. Establishing a new version of Rousey to spice things up on the women's side, especially when the men's side features both top titles on one guy (there's an idea for Rousey and Heyman to pursue, by the way) would be a shrewd way to keep things fresh.
Given Rousey's recent comments about linking up with Heyman, it feels like quite a bit more than simple fan booking at this point. Her legacy in WWE won't be marred or anything dramatic if this doesn't happen, but it would be quite a possible boon considering everyone knows it would be done quite well.
At a time when more of the same isn't always what fans want or even what WWE wants to do, mixing up Rousey's arc with Heyman next to her would bring something stunning for fans to catch every week.
