ACC Realignment: Splitting Syracuse and Pittsburgh Is a Bad Idea
The conventional wisdom on the ACC realignment coming when Pitt and Syracuse join is that one of them will be assigned to the Atlantic Division (currently containing Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, Maryland, NC State and Wake Forest) and one will be assigned to the Coastal Division (currently containing Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech).
That's a horrendously dumb idea.
It splits up Pitt and Syracuse's traditional rivalry and throws them in with schools for which (with the exception of BC) they have no traditional enmity.

And I'm not buying any of that crossover talk.
Furthermore, the ACC as it currently stands already breaks up too many traditional rivalries. So what I would do is move one team to another division, and then put Pitt and Syracuse in the same division.
The team I would move would be Maryland. A move to the Coastal would bring back the Terps' longstanding rivalries with Duke and Virginia.
That would mean that Pitt and Syracuse would continue to be divisional rivals, in addition to being able to join traditional Big East stablemate Boston College in the Atlantic Division.
To review, my divisional alignment would be as follows:
| Atlantic | Coastal |
| Boston College | Maryland |
| Syracuse | Virginia |
| Pitt | Virginia Tech |
| Wake Forest | Miami |
| NC State | Georgia Tech |
| Clemson | Duke |
| Florida State | North Carolina |
No silly crossover talk, more traditional rivalries.
Make the right call, ACC
