Brock Lesnar Retires: Better UFC Fighter or WWE Wrestler?

G DDec 31, 2011

During his time in the WWF, now known as WWE, Brock Lesnar became one of the most accomplished wrestlers in the history of the organization.

Often referred to as "The Next Big Thing," Lesnar proved his nickname to be an understatement as he was would become a three-time WWE champion. In addition, Lesnar would win a King of the Ring and a Royal Rumble before calling it quits to a historical career inside the ring.

Many felt Lesnar was the saving grace of the pro wrestling world, but his tenure didn't last long as the 265-pound beast made a beeline to the world of mixed martial arts.

Lesnar was declared victorious in his very first fight and immediately joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He would go on to become the UFC heavyweight champion in a dominating performance over Randy Couture at UFC 91.

The massive heavyweight would successfully defend his heavyweight title in two consecutive fights before losing the last two fights of his career.

With Lesnar officially retired, we look back upon a career of peak and valleys.

The main question that arises is in regard to Lesnar's legacy as a professional. Was he a better UFC fighter or WWE wrestler?

While Lesnar was certainly a more decorated wrestler during his time in the WWE, it was merely a scripted plot.

All of Lesnar's hard work over the years would lead him to a career that allowed him to have no say in the outcome of his fights. Instead, Lesnar was participating in an organization that essentially had him and others wrestlers playing the roles of robots as the final verdict was decided long before he entered the ring.

In the UFC, Lesnar battled it out with real-life competition as he suffered legitimate loses and serious injuries.

When Lesnar was declared victorious, it was because he earned it not because it was what UFC president Dana White wanted. When Lesnar became the UFC heavyweight champion, it was because he demonstrated the proper skill set not the proper acting skills.

When the rubber meets the road, Lesnar will go down as one of the most accomplished pro wrestlers of all time. However, it's unarguably fair to say that Lesnar was in fact a better UFC fighter than a WWE pro wrestler.
