Brock Lesnar: Loss to Overeem Wouldn't Doom Lesnar's Career
Even if he loses to Alistair Overeem at UFC 141, Brock Lesnar can still resurrect his career.
The past year and a half, there has been mounting evidence that Lesnar may not have the motivation to continue his career in the octagon.
After Cain Velasquez took his title in October 2010, Lesnar has had to deal with several serious illnesses, including the intestinal disease diverticulitis. He hasn't fought since the bout with Velasquez, when he lost by first round TKO.
Lesnar is 34-years-old and will drop to 5-3 if he loses to Overeem. Still, he's too talented to just fade into obscurity.
Lesnar is the best wrestler in the heavyweight division. His chin is questionable, but if the fight goes to the ground, I'll take Lesnar over anybody else in the UFC.
I also doubt that he will walk away from the sport that he loves. A lot of fighters are in it for the money, but Lesnar truly enjoys being a UFC fighter.
“I like it. I like doing it,” Lesnar said. “I’m not ready to be done. I’ve made a little bit of money here and there, but at the end of the day, I think it’s my identity. It’s who I want to be.”
Lesnar is aging and has battled health issues, but he's far from finished. Even if he loses to Overeem, he still has a few elite years left in him.
And I don't expect him to lose to Overeem. Look for Lesnar to get Overeem on his back and unleash a series of brutal strikes.
I'm predicting Lesnar to win by referee stoppage late in the first round.
