Tottenham Transfer Rumours: Luka Modric Drama Must End with January Transfer
Luka Modric has pledged his short-term future to Tottenham so he can help the club win the Premier League title this season, but Spurs are better off ending his transfer drama by selling him in January rather than the summer.
Modric recently commented on his future, via the Daily Mail:
"'I can say with almost 100 per cent certainty that I'll be staying at Tottenham until the end of the season.
I would always say that, theoretically, there is a small chance I could leave, if the club receive a suitable offer and it's one I wouldn't want to turn down, but the reality is that I expect to stay at Spurs until June, and then we will see."

Reports have hinted that Tottenham will offer Modric a new £100,000-a-week deal to stay with the club, but at several other Premier League clubs, he could make more money and have just as good of a chance to win trophies.
Chelsea tried to get the Croatian midfielder in the summer, but Tottenham refused to sell him, and now, there are reports that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has interest in Modric to add some skill and playmaking to a weak Red Devils midfield.
Tottenham are seven points behind league leaders Manchester City and also have a game in hand, but the league title isn't a realistic goal for Spurs.
United and City are better than Spurs, and both Manchester clubs have a decided goal difference advantage over the London club.
Tottenham has played United and City both once in the league this season and were beaten by a combined score of 8-1.
Modric, as talented as he is, is not a top-10 midfielder in world football. He's actually a bit overrated. He won't dominate big games, and he doesn't perform when the going gets tough.
He's not the playmaker or world-class talent that David Silva, Juan Mata or Wesley Sneijder are.
Spurs have to deal with Gareth Bale's future, who is a better player than Modric. Striker Emannuel Adebayor's future is also uncertain, and the club would be smart to sign him to a long-term deal given his success at White Hart Lane this year.
Tottenham should sell Modric and bring in several players either in January or in the summer transfer windows that will give the club enough talent to compete for the Champions League and league title every season in the near future.
If United or Chelsea are willing to offer more than £30 million for Mordic, then Tottenham would be incredibly foolish not to accept that offer, especially if they can get £40 million for him.
Tottenham isn't good enough to advance past the quarterfinals of the Champions League as currently constructed, so they need more talent.
Selling a player who won't excel against top European teams for a high price that will allow manager Harry Redknapp to bring in several quality players is the way to go for Spurs.
Tottenham has a good enough squad to sell Modric in January and purchase some players with those funds and still easily finish in the top four of the league.
Spurs are best suited ending the Modric transfer drama and capitalizing on his high value when Chelsea and United are desperate to add talent.
With £40 million in return for Modric, Redknapp could build a fantastic squad for Tottenham that would help the club dominate now and in the future.
