Lakers' Carmelo Anthony Talks 'Misconception' That He Can't Adapt to New Situations
Carmelo Anthony has heard all the talk that he can't adjust his game in new situations.
Suffice it to say he disagrees.
"I think people don't really understand me," Anthony told reporters Sunday. "I think there's a misconception out there about me and not being able to adapt to situations. But I'm easily adaptable, man, to any situation."
To be fair to the narrative, Anthony hasn't always adjusted well to new surroundings. He struggled taking lesser roles in Oklahoma City and Houston, with the latter stint ending after he played only 10 games for the franchise and was essentially parked for the 2018-19 season.
The widespread lack of urgency to sign Anthony after the Houston debacle seemingly sparked some level of change in the future Hall of Famer, who fit in beautifully for two seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers before signing with the Lakers. He's off to an excellent start in Los Angeles, averaging 16.7 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 52.2 percent from three-point range.
"When it comes to efficiency and as far as what he's doing right now, we're just trying to break down the defense and he's finding himself; either his man is guarding him and leaving him or he's in a great rhythm," teammate LeBron James said. "He's just taking his shots and knocking them down."
