Equiped with a New Offense, There Is No Reason the Miami Heat Don't Win It All
I don't want to get into making all these crazy predictions only three games into the season for the Miami Heat. But let's face it, they are looking SCARY good on both ends of the floor.
I'm sure that you have heard the story about how Erik Spolestra got the idea for this new high-powered offense from the Oregon Ducks fast speed offense they run on the gridiron.
In reality, the Heat should have been playing like this ever since they acquired LeBron James. With two of the best finishers in the league in James and Wade running up and down the court, the continual pressure they have been putting on defenses thus far is only a sign of things to come.
Rookie point guard Norris Cole is an underrated acquisition for the Heat that they were fortunate to pick up pretty late in the draft. He is a four-year point guard with a good head on his shoulders and the speed and ability to coexist with Wade and James quite nicely.
Not only that, but he has quick hands, just like starter Mario Chalmers, and is clearly not afraid of the bright lights.
Chris Bosh, Joel Anthony and Udonis Haslem are not given enough credit for what they bring to the table.
In particular, Bosh not only put on muscle, but he is able to play mean at the 5-spot now, and has also worked on his outside shot—and is even shooting the three with confidence.
What people don't tend to realize is the advantage of having such athletic and versatile big men as these three who once again complement Wade and James are ready and willing to get out and go every time they touch the ball.
You can no longer lay off Anthony completely, but now have to consider him an offensive threat with the way he has been finishing in the paint.
James Jones will continue to play a key role for the Heat this season. To be honest, I don't know why he did not play more last year, especially in the finals.
His ability to stretch the floor is something not to be taken lightly. Let's not forget he is your current three-point champion.
Lastly, Shane Battier will play a key role for the Heat as the season plays out—and especially in the playoffs.
His leadership and experience is not something that shows up on the scoreboard, but his defense and ability to knock down big shots will come in handy quite often.
Let's not forget the Heat are without Mike Miller, another deadly shooter and even Eddy Curry, another body.
It seems as though the Heat have put together all the right pieces and placed them into this offense that will push teams to their defensive limits every night.
There is no reason the Heat should not run through the league.
But like I said before, it's only been three games and I don't want to base too much off such little substance.
Nevertheless, watch out NBA. It's looking as though the Heat are ready to handle their business.
