Lou Williams Lucky Robber Spared His Life for Being a Good Person

Donald WoodDec 27, 2011

For those who said charity work was overrated or karma isn’t real, please examine exhibit A. Philadelphia 76ers guard Lou Williams.

The 76ers was the victim of an armed robbery attempt, but as the man robbing Williams saw him and recognized his community work, he stopped robbing the NBA star and let him go.

And they say there is no peace in the hood.

Williams took to twitter to share his harrowing adventure:

"

There's crime everywhere. I was debating whether to pull off to help the guy. The gun was already out. He did all the talking, and we came up with a solution before I could really say much. I treated him to McDonald's.

"

Williams should consider himself to be incredibly lucky that this man didn’t shot him just to be a star. There is no honor among thieves, but this could have been a man down on his luck that turned to crime to help support his family.

In no way am I defending the criminal, but there is a glimmer of Christmas spirit even during our crimes around the holidays.

This is also the reason why I try to be nice to people because you never know when they’ll rob you. I walk old ladies across streets, but it’s just because I fear that one day they hold me up. Maybe my kindness will be my ticket out of trouble as well.

I think the only way this story could have gotten any better would be if Doug Collins and Ed Stefanski pulled the old Trading Places premise and had Williams and the robber switch lives.
