NBA Rumors: New Jersey Nets Add Depth with Signing of DeShawn Stevenson

Eric BowmanDec 22, 2011

The New Jersey Nets continue to add players to their roster. Their most recent signing is that of shooting guard DeShawn Stevenson

Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News tweeted the breaking news, and it's a decent pickup for the Nets.

Of course, he's no Dwight Howard, but it's still a move that helps boost the Nets roster.

Stevenson's most recent team was the Dallas Mavericks, but shortly after winning the championship, he was arrested for public intoxication.

The 6'5", 218-pound guard isn't quite the scorer that the Nets need, but he'll be a good enough role player to help the Nets.

Having been in the league for 11 years, Stevenson is now joining his fourth different team.

Fans would prefer that any breaking news involving the Nets would be about Howard, but it remains to be seen if the Orlando Magic are willing to trade him.

What's interesting about this pickup for the Nets is the fact that partial Nets' owner Jay-Z once performed a rap diss toward Stevenson because he was calling out LeBron James

Now Jay-Z is his boss, which should make for an interesting moment the next time these two guys see each other.

The Nets are trying to build a better squad, and this is a small step in the right direction. Now, if only they could just get Howard, then the Nets would be considered a true contender in the Eastern Conference.
