WWE TLC 2011: Wade Barrett Must Defeat Randy Orton in Tables Match

Michael DixonDec 17, 2011

If the WWE is interested in building a new star, they need to have Wade Barrett cleanly go over Randy Orton on Sunday.

Clean is a relative term when you're talking about a Tables Match, but there can't be any doubt that Barrett deserved the win. No outside interference, no flukes, just a clear win from Barrett.

Barrett's been built up strong recently, which is best exhibited by the fact that he's in a program with a star like Randy Orton. Having him sacrificed against Orton would be completely pointless, especially since Orton doesn't need the win.

Orton can go on a 10-match losing streak and would still be completely believable as a title contender.

That's not the case with Barrett, although it can be in relatively short order.

If Barrett beats Orton, he's a legitimate threat to win the Royal Rumble next month. Again, Orton doesn't need this win to be a threat.

Continuing to build Barrett strong makes him a real threat down the line, and this is a feud that can easily be extended.

If I was booking things right now, Orton and Barrett would be a WrestleMania match. It's not hard to book that if Barrett goes over on Sunday, but it is if Orton wins.

If Orton wins, Barrett's back down the card. He's nothing more than an upper mid-carder before getting bumped down the card. Getting a win over Orton makes him a real main eventer, and he doesn't even need to be booked all that strong to maintain that status.

This comes down to two things. One is maintaining the build that you've given to an up and coming star.

The other is keeping your options open down the road during the most important time of the year. Having Orton win eliminates both. Having Barrett wins keeps both alive.

This is really a no-brainer decision for the WWE.
