WWE Raw Supershow Rating: Good Number with a Bad Trend Continuing

Justin WatryNov 30, 2011

I enjoyed WWE Raw this past Monday night. It was enough to get fans excited for Tuesday night's special live Smackdown, but it also set the tone for the WWE TLC show next month.

Sadly, the numbers are in, and the results are not all positive. The show received a 3.2 rating with 4,483,000 million viewers.

The first hour scored a 3.33, while the second hour earned a 3.07. To make matters worse, the Monday Night Football game was a blowout after halftime.

Not encouraging news for the big WWE title match in the main event, huh?

My thoughts on the rating?

As I covered last week, a 3.2 rating is about average for WWE Raw these days, so the number is not the actual problem.

The problem is constantly losing viewers throughout the show. That can't happen, especially with a big main event promoted a week in advance. Also, the match got tons of mentions during the show.

Maybe that is the problem? Maybe fans did not think that was a big main event? Perhaps fans had seen enough of CM Punk vs. Alberto Del Rio?

I know I touched on this upon learning of the feud. We saw it a ton of times, and it never really interested me. Their matches were thrown out on random TV episodes in the past, and now I should care? Sorry, no thanks. That is just my opinion.

I know people do not want to hear it, but my other problem was starting the show with John Cena. Imagine how hot of an ending to Raw would have been with Piper slapping Cena and him walking to the back with his head down...

Cena is the biggest star in the industry. There is no denying that. Thus, viewers saw him in the opening. He was not announced for a match, so many tuned out. That is my guess. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Either way, I have no doubts Punk is in store for a long run, and Del Rio is going to be moving away from the title picture in the near future. WWE just needs to entice viewers to stay for an entire show.

What do you folks think? Why do viewers keep tuning on of WWE Raw, even when the NFL game is a blowout and a big main event is made? How can this problem be fixed? Let me know.
