Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: The $100 Million Fight the World Is Waiting For

Nedu ObiNov 24, 2011

Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao is the $100 million fight that the world has been waiting for, and with bated breath we continue to wait for what will be the richest fight in prize fighting history.

If this bout ever comes to fruition, it will be the last mega-fight and most probably the last super-fight of our generation.

The fighters, the media and everyone in between has had their say, next up was “Money's” uncle and trainer, Roger Mayweather.

In a recent interview with “On The Ropes Boxing Radio,” Roger came out firing on all cylinders when he spoke candidly about why Money vs. Pac-Man is a fight that has to happen.

This is what he had to say:

“They want to see Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. That's what the world is waiting for. There ain't nothing else they're waiting for."

"The only fight that makes sense is Floyd and Pacquiao."

When asked about a fourth encounter between Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez getting in the way of the proposed super-fight, Mayweather said:

“There ain't nobody who wants to see that.”

Mayweather also spoke about Pacquiao and the stipulations for the fight transpiring:

"If he takes that test, the fight is going to happen. The only reason the fight ain't going to happen is because he don't want to take that test.”

Mayweather’s nephew’s philosophy has always been: If it makes dollars then it makes sense.

This was Mayweather’s take on issue:

"The only way the fight ain't going to happen, is because this guy (Pacquiao) has to be a fool not to fight Floyd for all that money.”

It’s safe to say that “Money” can no longer be accused of ducking the Pac-Man anymore—he wants this fight as much as the eagerly awaiting public.

The ante has been upped—the Mayweather camp has made their play.

It’s time for camp Pacquiao to follow suit.

What’s at stake?

Credibility and legacy.

What’s up for grabs?

The status as No. 1 pound-for-pound pugilist, and then there’s that monetary incentive—a small matter of $100 million-plus.
