Urban Meyer Ohio State: Report Says Meyer Has Agreed to Coach Bucks

The Buckeyes have reportedly signed Urban Meyer to a long-term contract to become the next coach at the Ohio State University.

After a week of rumors, Bill Greene of Scouts Inc. is reporting that the news will be announced right after the regular season finale at Michigan:

It may lack shock value, but it’s clearly the right move.

This comes after ESPN made this curious decision:

Meyer has won two national championships; he has proved he can rebuild a program (even though the Buckeyes aren’t exactly in re-building mode) and took a Utah Utes team to an undefeated record.

This man is more than qualified to take over, especially when you consider Jim Tressel was the head honcho at Youngstown State before taking over the reins.

For Meyer, it makes sense as well.

There are only a handful of jobs that equal Florida (Texas, Alabama), and Ohio State is right there. They have a huge stadium, incredibly passionate fans, unbelievable tradition, huge big-state recruiting base and plenty of donors that live and breathe with the scarlet and grey.

The biggest factor that seals the deal here is that he’s from Ohio. Meyer played football at the University of Cincinnati and was an assistant with Ohio State from 1986 to 1987. He was the head coach at Bowling Green from 2001 to 2002. He knows the region, knows the style of play and will be able to dominate the recruiting wars.

At the age of 47, it’s not like this guy is old either. The Buckeyes may have just found a head football coach that will be with the team for the next two decades…with more than one championship to follow.

This is by far the best news the university has heard in awhile.
