WWE and Dolph Ziggler: Perfection or Mid-Carder for Life?
Dolph Ziggler seems to be the latest flavor the IWC has taken a liking to. It seems only yesterday he was struggling to get over without Vickie Guerrero. Now, the call's being made to have him dump Vickie, and some would even like him to be a face.
However, I'm gonna be honest with the "Dolph-fans" as I call Ziggler's following. I'm just not seeing a main-eventer. Honestly, I've been a fan of Dolph since his time on SmackDown when he won the I.C. Championship. He was a great Intercontinental Champion, and I think he would have made a good World Heavyweight Champion; However, I didn't like the way he was awarded the title.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Since his move to RAW, and even with his boost in charisma, he just doesn't strike me as someone who would be a main-eventer on a consistent basis. At the most, I see him as an upper mid-card heel. Someone who would come close, and maybe even hold the title once or twice, but only for short periods of time. Similar to the place Jeff Hardy or John Morrison were in at one point.
It's not as if I'm trying to discredit how much of a talent Dolph is. He's a very good mic worker. Much better than he was before and I like it because looking back, you really get a sense of how much Dolph has improved. It's not just baby steps. Similar to how people say someone has improved, but only one or two things. Dolph on SmackDown and Dolph on RAW are two totally different guys on the mic. (Mainly because Vickie was the one on the mic 90 percent of the time on SmackDown.)
Along with that, Dolph has been slated as one of the best workers in the WWE right now. That's something that hasn't really been disputed, however, especially during his short feud with Daniel Bryan where he and the then-U.S. Champion stole the show when they faced off on pay-per-views or free television. In fact, people are clamoring now for CM Punk vs. Dolph Ziggler at The Royal Rumble or even WrestleMania.
When it comes down to it, while I agree he's not bad, his promo style doesn't really catch me as anything impressive. His work on Z:True Long Island Story is hit and miss for me. Sometimes, he talks so low I can't hear him, other times, I'm just not impressed the way other people are. His mic skills, to me, are average. I'd liken them to a Johnny Ace promo I saw not too long ago on YouTube.
His ring work, though, I don't question. The addition of a few subtle nuances here and there, such as the kip up and the Superkick he's started using, (is it named Hashtag:Heel? I read it on Wikipedia, but I'm not sure.) are pretty good additions.
As for his current predicament, it's being said his breakout moment will be soon as many speculate he'll drop the U.S. Title to either Zack Ryder, John Morrison or Mason Ryan and begin an accent to the main event.
That said, I have to ask how? What main-eventer does Ziggler have to feud with? Barring any injuries, the earliest this rise would occur would be in early January after TLC. That's because WWE has Punk feuding with Del Rio at least til TLC and Cena has Awesome Truth to deal with for the foreseeable future and the looming shadow of The Peoples' Champion at Mania.
So, as a main-event heel, Dolph would have to feud with Punk by default cause Cena has a full plate and even then, I don't feel Dolph is ready to main event just yet. Especially not at a stage like WrestleMania. Maybe The Rumble, but then Dolph runs the risk of falling back to the mid-card with no other options to fight.
I don't know how good of a World Champion he would be. If he's booked anything like he has been as United States Champion, I don't know if I could take him seriously, because in recent months, Dolph has been a very sorry U.S. Champ. Cheap victories, multiple losses to different people and little recognition of his position as U.S. Champ...just turns me off to think he could be WWE Champion right now.
However, I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong. I want more main-eventers, and if Dolph can break the glass ceiling, more power to him. All I'm saying is, that as of right now, Dolph doesn't look like main-event material to me, but I want that to change ASAP.
