Ndamukong Suh: "I Like to Punish the Quarterback," Defends Actions Against Bears

Jay FloydNov 15, 2011

"I like to punish the quarterback. I like to punish running backs for them trying to make plays on my defense. Whether it's dirty or aggressive or whatever that may be, we're going to continue to play that way," said Ndamukong Suh during an ESPN interview.

When asked about ripping Cutler's helmet off he explained it was "part of the game."

Strange apology.

Sounds like he's admitting "aggressive" might be dirty. Or illegal.

Which is it?

Suh Rips off Cutler's Helmet

Did Jay Cutler think it was illegal?

"I don't know, I'll have to see it on film," he said after the game.

Very diplomatic, Jay. You were less cordial on the field.

Here's a hint: when you're twisted to the ground by your head and your helmet flies off, it's probably illegal.

Some of the Bears took issue with the hit.

Head coach Lovie Smith said, "I guess it's safe to say you shouldn't do that. I'll leave it at that.''

"That's funny. I can really only just laugh at that," Suh responded

Dirty or Aggressive?

Suh insists his actions aren't illegal or dirty, saying, “The way I’m playing is more aggressive, more physical. I’m not stopping the way I’m playing."

Again, doesn't sound like an apology. Or an admission of guilt.

Even after meeting with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Suh said he "agreed to disagree” on what was a legal hit or not.

Wait, what?

Since when do you get to disagree with the head of the NFL about what's legal in a football game?

I'm no commish, but it seems Suh didn't listen very well.

And yet prior to the Bears game he said, "I don't think anything is borderline. It is or it's not. You either consider it dirty or you don't consider it dirty. I don't think there's any in between ... it's one or the other."

Hey Ndamukong, I'm officially confused.

Is it legal or not? Does he think he'll be fined?

"I'm not really sure what the commissioner is going to say," he said Tuesday.

No kidding.
