Arsene Wenger and Manchester City vs. Carlos Tevez and the PFA

Roberto Alvarez-GallosoNov 8, 2011

The saga between Manchester City on one hand and Carlos Tevez and PFA took another turn. While the people who support Manchester City appear to have lost their patience with Tevez, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been the latest personality in the Premier League to condemn the actions of the PFA (Professional Footballers' Association) towards Manchester City.

The decision was made to invite two Bleacher Report personalities, Daniel Morehead and Obat Realmad Cipriani, to a round-table discussion to gauge whether Carlos Tevez and the PFA are right or wrong.

Let the slideshow begin.

Daniel Morehead: Apathy Towards the Carlos Tevez vs. PFA Saga

1 of 3

I was present at the Allianz Arena when the latest chapter of the Carlos Tevez saga erupted on the touchlines. The sense of bewilderment in the stands quickly grew into anger, with reports beginning to filter in as the crowd made their way out of the stadium.

A sense of resentment has remained for many fans, but, in truth, I’ve grown quite apathetic towards the Carlos Tevez sideshow. That’s all it is, really—a sideshow.

The lack of any kind of detrimental effect towards City’s on-pitch performances may be disappointing to those wishing to sensationalise the story even further. The fact is that since their 2-0 loss in Munich, City have hit back with seven wins in seven matches.

Fifty-one goals in 17 games have ensured that Carlos Tevez—the striker—has not been missed this season; Carlos Tevez—the man—will be missed even less.

The PFA have a glaringly obvious conflict of interests, which City, with the association’s chief executive Gordon Taylor representing Tevez throughout the hearing, then overruling the disciplinary punishment when City ruled against the Argentinean striker. Despite this, City occupy a position of strength in contractual matters.

As Tevez joined the club before summer 2010, his current wages will not count against the club’s efforts to comply with Financial Fair Play. Any January transfer fee will, however.

If Tevez is called upon to represent the club on-field, any refusal to participate will undermine his position, placing further pressure upon the PFA.

Obat Realmad Cipriani: A Huge Injustice

When Balotelli and Milner came off the bench to score against Everton, Mancini looked like the best manager in England. His changes worked and Man City was able to finally end the stronghold Everton had over them in recent seasons.

The problem was that Tevez was seen warming up throughout the half, yet other players went on before him, and even Savic got the call to go on. Pictures show Aguero, sitting next to his countryman Tevez while wearing a smile, but Tevez had one of those "if looks could kill" faces on, pointed in the direction of the manager.

The next thing was the biggest game of the season, away to Bayern, and a chance to take the top spot in the group.

The world manager now had to make a choice: Play the way he did last season, with three central midfielders and Tevez leading the line (since we all know only Tevez could thrive in that formation), or go with his two strikers and two holding players, despite giving up two goals to Fulham in their EPL away game.

Mancini went with the latter and included Kolo Toure in central defense, instead of the regular Lescott.

Toure, a man who was suspended by the club, was given a start, but not Tevez—the club`s leading scorer last season.

What is funny is that both Tevez and Toure have a case against Man City as we speak, with the PFA trying to get their fines reduced, taken away or suspended altogether.

Wonder why these players did not seek, the PFA`s council and advice before they did what the club has since suspended and subsequently fined both for?

No football fan could excuse these players for what they are being accused of doing,so why should the PFA try to help them get their fines reduced?

But it`s what the PFA is there for,to help the footballers when in need.

I could understand that the PFA has to intervene and yes maybe Man City was a bit harsh in their fines.

Should Man City win this and get their wish granted,no player will dare to follow these two players path, since it seems, players dont care what fans think of them, but as soon as their pockets are getting touched,it`s a huge injustice.

Roberto Alvarez-Galloso: Tevez Should Be Punished

3 of 3

I would like to conclude the slideshow by saying that Arsene Wenger was right in saying that Tevez should be punished. I am also up to here with Tevez and the PFA destroying the harmony that existed in Manchester City.

My suggestion is to send Carlos Tevez to a team in Russia such as Tom Tomsk or Sibir Novosibirsk. The other possibility is to ban him from world football on a permanent basis.

I would like to express my thanks towards Daniel Morehead and Obat Realmad Cipriani for accepting the invitations and contributing.

It remains to be seen what will transpire.
