Why Tim Tebow Is Not Just a Downgrade from Kyle Orton, but Also Brady Quinn

Gary DavenportOct 30, 2011

Many people may look at the title of this article and assume one of three things.

1.) I've been using wite-out in an enclosed area.

2.) I'm simply being sensationalistic in an effort to get readers.

3.) I'm schizophrenic, since earlier today I stated in another piece here at Bleacher Report today that I agree with Denver's decision to start Tebow.

While all three of those things are true to an extent, and while I do agree with the Broncos rolling Tebow out there on Sunday in that they might as well find out if the second-year pro has a snowball's chance of developing into a viable NFL quarterback, it's still folly to suggest that Tebow isn't a downgrade from Kyle Orton (who's a serviceable NFL quarterback), and I'd even go so far as to suggest that Tebow is, from a standpoint of his effect on the Denver passing game, a downgrade from Brady Quinn.

Yes, that Brady Quinn.

Stop laughing at me.

Granted, in his five years in the National Football League Brady Quinn has done absolutely nothing whatsoever to justify the Cleveland Browns using a first-round draft pick on him (a pick that, as a Browns fan, I still see a therapist twice a week about—and we're a franchise that picked Tim Couch with the No. 1 pick), but the brother-in-law of Green Bay Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk (which is the closest thing to a claim to NFL fame Quinn has to this point in his career) has shown the occasional ability to grasp a concept that seems to have eluded Tebow through his first two seasons in the NFL.

The mysterious and magical art of completing a forward pass more than five yards downfield. While Tebow's incredible knack for leading comebacks must be applauded, the fact remains that he will always lack the polish of true quarterbacks. Tebow is a great player, but he's a player who happens to play quarterback.

There is a difference.

Let's get the movement started.

WE WANT QUINN!

WE WANT QUINN!

WE WANT...

Oh wait, no we don't. This is a conundrum..
