CM Punk Video: Watch WWE Superstar's Touching Tribute to Eddie Guerrero

Adam WellsJun 3, 2018

CM Punk became a legitimate WWE superstar earlier this year for his work with John Cena and Vince McMahon prior to the “Money In the Bank” pay-per-view. His attitude and charisma took the wrestling world by storm. But at a house show in El Paso this weekend, the Straight Edge Superstar showed his softer side.

El Paso, Texas is the hometown of Eddie Guerrero, who passed away in 2005 due to heart failure. Punk decided to take a break from his usual shtick in the ring and told the crowd that he wanted them to stop chanting his name and start chanting for Guerrero.

Punk did not make his WWE debut until after Guerrero passed away, but the two did work together on the independent wrestling scene in 2002 after Guerrero was released from WWE due to personal problems that were bubbling over the surface.

They battled for the IWA Mid-South Heavyweight Championship in a triple-threat match with Rey Mysterio. Guerrero won the title from Punk in that match, but he dropped the belt to Punk the day after he won it because he was getting ready to return to WWE.

The best part about the tribute to Guerrero is that the arena was legitimately sold out, and the crowd in attendance got behind Punk even before he said who he was going to pay tribute to.

WWE has been having problems lately getting people to attend house shows. Things have gotten so bad that the company has had to cancel a number of shows the last two months due to low ticket sales.

But for whatever reason, the fans in El Paso knew that they were in for a treat and wanted to be a part of the show.

Punk did not disappoint as he led the crowd in a chant for their fallen hero. There has never been a character like Eddie Guerrero in wrestling history, and there will never be another one like him again.
