Auburn Football: Tigers Defense Can't Stop Anyone

The Auburn Tigers have started this season off in the right direction by getting wins, but they have a glaring weakness. The Auburn Tigers struggle to play defense. If defense wins championships, don’t expect the Auburn Tigers to win anything anytime soon.

In Week 1 against the Utah State, that’s right Utah State, the Auburn Tigers were embarrassed on defense and allowed 448 yards to a team that should not be playing toe-toe with a member of the SEC. It was the Tigers offense and special teams play that bailed them out and allowed them to win the game.

In Week 2, they allowed over 30 points for the second week in a row as Mississippi State racked up over 500 yards on offense. The Tigers did have a late defensive stand to salvage the victory, but the Tigers still have a very porous defense.

As I write this article, the Tigers defense is struggling to stop the Clemson Tigers. Auburn started off by grabbing a 14-0 lead on the road only to see that lead quickly disappear to the horrible play of their defense. Clemson eclipsed 300 yards just after the second half and grabbed momentum by rattling off score after score to take this game over.

The rest of the Auburn Tigers schedule is brutal. The Tigers start off October with a brutal stretch that includes games against South Carolina, Florida and LSU. If the Tigers cannot slow down Utah State and Clemson, what hope do they have against the best team in the country?

The Tigers season is about to take a turn for the worse and there is nothing they can do to stop it.
