Kevin Walter Injury: Do the Texans Need Randy Moss to Help Andre Johnson?

The Houston Texans had a very successful opening weekend.  They took the early lead for the AFC South division title by defeating the Indianapolis Colts.  The performance was very impressive, as they looked good in all phases of the game.  It was particularly impressive to see them establish a running game, even without starter Arian Foster.

However, it was not all good news, as starting receiver Kevin Walter left with an injury.  According to Pro Football Talk, Walter has a broken shoulder and is expected to miss 12 weeks.  Walter isn't a superstar, but someone who is very important to the balance of the offense.  His absence takes a playmaker off the field, allowing the defense to pay more attention to Andre Johnson.

Johnson was expected to face his share of double teams, but with Walter out that is sure to increase.  During the offseason, many experts felt that Houston needed to add another playmaker.  However, they decided to put all their focus on the defensive side of the ball.

The Texans will now turn to Jacoby Jones and Bryant Johnson to pick up the slack.  Jones was already getting plenty of snaps as the slot receiver.  He should remain in that role, while receiving additional snaps on the outside.  Bryant Johnson was a late addition and is still learning the offense, making his chances of contributing slim.

Houston could look to the free agent market in order to add some veteran help.  There is an interesting name left on the market, Randy Moss.  The word is that Moss isn't looking to return, but the Texans offer another shot at the playoffs.  Moss would definitely help draw double teams away from Andre Johnson.

This is Houston's opportunity to unseat the Colts and make a playoff run.  There might not be a better time to take a risk and sign Randy Moss.
