US Open Tennis 2011 Results: Roger Federer vs Dudi Sela Analysis and Highlights
No. 3 ranked Roger Federer squared off against No. 93 ranked Dudi Sela in Thursday’s second-round match at the US Open.
The result was never in doubt.
Score:
Federer barely broke a sweat in his 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 straight-set victory in front of a hefty crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The five-time US Open winner was extremely efficient, needing a mere 77 minutes to complete the victory.
Analysis:
It was all about the serve for Federer.
He only dropped seven points on serve during the match, and that really put the pressure for Sela to take advantage of his own serve, something he clearly couldn’t do.
The 26-year-old from Israel has a nice backhand that he displayed on a few occasions, but more often than not the sheer power of Federer stymied Sela into submission.
As the whispers around Federer’s 30th birthday last month continued to get louder leading up to the last Grand Slam of the year, the greatest player of the last decade has been dominant in his first two matches.
The one part of Federer’s game that wasn’t razor-sharp was his number of unforced errors. He committed 25 of them, three more than Sela.
Quote:
""I had not much trouble on my serve," said Federer, "and from the baseline I also thought I had the upper hand. When it's like that, obviously it's tough for the opponent, but I just think I was superior today. It was a good match for me in breezy conditions. It was a bit tricky early on to find the rhythm. That's why I was happy to get the first break in the first set."

What’s On Tap:
Next up for Federer in the third round is 27th-seeded Marin Cilic. He demolished rising Australian star Bernard Tomic 6-1, 6-0, 6-2.
Two wins down…five more to go.
