US Open Tennis Results: Caroline Wozniacki Looks Primed for Grand Slam Success

Gabe ZaldivarJun 7, 2018

Caroline Wozniacki has proclaimed before that she wants to win. Seeing her at the US Open, I am finally inclined to believe it.

The No. 1-ranked woman in the world has received a great deal of scrutiny as she continues to bow out of Grand Slams to seemingly more determined foes.

You could sense that the 21-year-old Danish star would get with the program at some point, and I am thrilled that it will occur at the 2011 US Open.

Wozniacki did what any top-ranked player should do in her opening salvo: She cut down Nuria Llagostera Vives with one foul stroke.

Woz blended her usual defensive measure with a new aggressive approach that illustrates she is determined to bring versatility to her game.

Wozniacki was 14-of-17 on points finished at the net, had 22 winners and made 17 unforced errors in her 6-3, 6-1 victory.

Next up is another opponent playing above her head in Arantxa Rus. Wozniacki should make short work of her heading into the third round.

Her development matches her claims off the court. Wozniacki may seem aloof in her answers, but that is her style. She is an easy-going lady that wants to enjoy life away from the court.

She understands that there is always room for growth, saying:

"

"I'm the type of player I am. I've won a lot of tournaments. I'm No. 1 in the world, and of course I can still improve. There are a lot of things to my game I can still improve, but everyone can."

"

Seeing her meld every little aspect of her tennis game to take down Vives was a marvel. Granted, it was the first round, but Wozniacki was working on things, bettering herself. That is what the best players in the world are supposed to do.

And that is why she will win the US Open.
