Chicago Cubs Getting Brian Cashman Could Lead to CC Sabathia

The Chicago Cubs will be doing something for the first time in nine years.

This upcoming offseason, the Cubs will be exploring new options for their general manager position. As the Cubs are a high-profile franchise, they have many top GMs looking to possibly make the move to Chicago's North Side.

One of the more notable candidates is longtime Yankee's GM Brian Cashman. The four-time World Series-winning GM would certainly know a thing or two about building a championship contender. The thing is, though, the Ricketts would have to be willing to open their wallets like the Steinbrenners have over the years.

If the Chicago Cubs are able to get Brian Cashman, could he bring with him one of his prized possessions in New York?

That prize would be Cy Young Award winning pitcher CC Sabathia. The now-Yankee and former Milwaukee Brewer pitcher has a big decision to make this offseason. His contract allows him to opt out if he pleases. If he does so, he will have many suitors after him.

Could the man who signed him in New York sign him again, but with another organization? I'd think so.

If there is one thing the Chicago Cubs are always looking to improve on, it is starting pitching. If the Cubs were able to obtain Cashman's services, he would put them in position to possibly get one of the best pitchers in the MLB.

CC Sabathia also is not shy of the National League. Even though he has spent the majority of his career in the American League, he went 11-2 with a 1.97 ERA in his short stint with the Milwaukee Brewers. Those games included seven complete games and three shutouts. He finished in fifth place for NL Cy Young voting, and he pitched only half as many games in the National League then his opposing candidates.

If CC Sabathia were to opt out of his Yankee contract and come to the Chicago Cubs, he could potentially put up these damaging numbers again. With a rotation starting with CC Sabathia and Matt Garza, the Cubs would pose a threat to make an immediate impact on the NL Central.

The Chicago Cubs need to take into consideration what the the possible general managers can do for them immediately. If Brian Cashman can bring Sabathia with him, the Cubs need to get two contracts ready now.
