Rousimar Palhares' Premature Celebration and the 10 Funniest Moments in the Cage

Tim McTiernanJun 7, 2018

The UFC has been around for almost 18 years, and with it, have come many hilarious moments inside the cage.

We got a new one to add to the list on Saturday night, thanks to Dan Miller, Herb Dean and most of all, Rousimar Palhares.

That got me thinking about some of the funniest moments in MMA history, from Pride to the UFC to random regional organizations.

So, here, in no specific order, are 10 of the funniest moments that have ever happened inside the cage.

If I've forgotten your favorite funny moment, let me know in the comments!

Palhares Premature Celebration

1 of 11

On Saturday night, Rousimar Palhares earned a first round TKO victory.

Wait—What?—He didn't?

Rousimar! Get down from the cage! It isn't over!

Palhares thought he had earned TKO victory over Dan Miller in the first round, and even ran across and mounted the cage, but Herb Dean never stopped the fight.

On the restart, Miller rocked Palhares bad, but he recovered and went on to win a unanimous decision, in one of the wackiest fights of the year.

Cristiane Santos Premature Celebration

2 of 11

Believe it or not, this isn't the first time that a fighter thought they had won, ran cross cage, mounted it, and started to celebrate, only to be called back and made to keep fighting.

In Cristiane Santos' EliteXC debut, she thought she had defeated Shayna Baszler, but Steve Mazagatti never ended the fight, and it went on. Cyborg would win soon after by TKO.

Jump to about 8:20 to see it unfold.

Double KO

3 of 11

What's a funniest moments list without this one?

In a regional MMA event being refereed by Shonie Carter, both fighters throw simultaneous right hooks, and both nights are over.

Carter ends up having no idea what to do, and just raises his own hands.

They both lose, and I win!

Unfortunately, referees are not always so lucky...

Gilbert Yvel KO Referee

4 of 11

WARNING: TURN DOWN YOUR SPEAKERS

If you didn't heed the warning, I will not cover the medical bills for your perforated eardrums.

This was the only footage I could find, but that is Gilbert Yvel knocking out the referee.

It was later revealed that the ref may have been working for the other fighter, but even still, this is uncalled for.

New Years Fiasco

5 of 11

On a New Years fight card in 2005, Heath Herring was set to face off against Yoshihiro Nakao in a heavyweight bout.

In the staredown before the fight was due to start, Nakao kissed Herring on the lips.

Heath didn't take kindly to this, and he threw a right paw at Nakao which knocked him out cold.

The fight ended in a No Contest due to double fouls.

Mark Coleman Ropes

6 of 11

This one could have easily been Mark Coleman bringing his kids into the ring and them crying due to his face looking like hamburger meat, but I decided to mix it up a bit and go with this one.

After Mark Coleman scores a victory, he attempts to celebrate and jump over the ropes, or on the ropes, or out of the corner, or something like that, but he just ends up falling down.

Ring 1, Coleman 0.

Wanderlei Silva Say What Now?

7 of 11

Who doesn't remember this?

Wanderlei Silva has a bit of a slip up, and says he would like to do inappropriate things with Chuck Liddell, but he then corrects himself and says fight.

Unfortunately, the fight didn't happen as soon as everyone hoped, but when it did, it delivered and won fight of the year.

Imagine if these two had met in their primes...

Tim Sylvia Should Have Worn a Diaper

8 of 11

I spent about ten minutes trying to come up with a good pun, but I finally just gave up and went for something straight forward.

There's no video around on this one, because nobody's really sure if it's true, but it's said that at Ultimate Fight Night 3, Tim Sylvia may have dropped a deuce during the fight.

Sylvia was apparently sick before the fight, and I don't really want to speculate on this one anymore.

All I'll say is that it's a good thing nothing like that happened in the next fight...

Randy Spanks Tito

9 of 11

...because that could have been bad.

At UFC 44, Randy Couture took on Tito Ortiz for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.

In the closing seconds of the final round, Tito went for a desperation leg lock, which he wasn't going to get.

Randy looked down, and all he could see was Tito's behind, so he did what any professional fighter would think of doing.

He spanked Tito, and embarrassed him all the way down to the final bell.

What's worse, Randy spanking Tito, or Thiago Silva slapping Brandon Vera?

Brock Lesnar Post Fight UFC 100

10 of 11

I think we all remember Mr. Lesnar's post fight speech after he defeated Frank Mir at UFC 100.

I'll let the video, and Brock, speak for themselves.
