Liverpool vs. Bolton Wanderers: Luis Suarez vs. Gary Cahill and 4 Key Matchups

The Reds enjoyed finally getting a victory against Arsenal last weekend, and during they week they advanced to the next round of the Carling Cup.

Bolton Wanderers also advanced this week in the Carling Cup, but they suffered a frustrating 3-2 loss to Manchester City at the weekend.

Gary Cahill remains a Trotter for now and the Reds will be hoping to get their first home victory of the season and remain undefeated.

That said, let's take a look at some of the key matchups for Saturday's game at Anfield.

Lucas Leiva vs. Fabrice Muamba

Both Bolton's Fabrice Muamba and Liverpool's Lucas Leiva will have their work cut out for them as the two holding midfielders on the pitch. With big strikers patrolling both opposing front lines, these two will have some key moments in the game to break up the game play.

Muamba and Lucas are two of the best young defensive midfield talents in the Barclay's Premier League, and whichever one has the stronger game could be a decisive factor for which side takes the victory.

Kevin Davies vs. Daniel Agger and Jamie Carragher

Kevin Davies is one of the most physical front men in all of the Premier League. Even at age 34, he is on top of his game and will be looking to push Daniel Agger and Jamie Carragher around at the center of the Reds defense.

Agger needs to show his ability in the air and his footwork skills in order to get the best of the crafty Bolton forward.

Jamie Carragher will be hoping his experience and skill pay off against his fellow member of the Premier League's old guard.

Andy Carroll vs. Paul Robinson

Andy Carroll will be looking to knock down crosses all day into the paths of his midfielders and fellow front man Luis Suarez.

Paul Robinson is most likely to have the task of trying to shackle the young Geordie down in the center of Bolton's defense.

However, if Carroll can knock down crosses like he did against Arsenal, he will most likely have a much bigger impact—as long as Suarez is there to meet them with his goal-hungry attitude and eye for the net.

Martin Petrov vs. Stewart Downing

Martin Petrov has had to assume the majority of the midfield creative role while Stuart Holden is still recovering.

His opposing counterpart will most likely be Stewart Downing, as Alberto Aquilani is set to make a move back to Italy with AC Milan, and both Raul Meireles and Steven Gerrard are out injured.

Downing looks to have developed a partnership with Suarez, as displayed in the later stages of the Arsenal game, and the two could run riot on the Wanderers if they are not careful.

Petrov will have to make sure to keep the ball flowing through to both Ivan Klasnic and Kevin Davies, and Tuncay Sanli's arrival could also help to lessen his burden in midfield.

Luis Suarez vs. Gary Cahill

Gary Cahill is Bolton's most capable defender. That being said, it will be up to him to try and stifle "El Pistelero" from twisting and turning his way to goal after goal.

Luis Suarez has already shown he is up for it this season, and his desire to score should push him to have several good shots at netting.

Along with his goal-scoring ability, his off-the-ball movement is also likely to create loads of space for his opponents as they look for a third victory of the week after wins against Arsenal and Exeter City.

Conclusion

The Reds look ready for another test as they await the arrival of Bolton Wanderers at Anfield.

Charlie Adam and Luis Suarez are my favorites to score, with Adams possibly coming from a deflected free kick.

Liverpool continue to improve and prove more than the Wanderers can handle in front of the Kop.
