Andy Roddick Video: Watch Roddick's Temper on Display in Cincinnati
There is something about tennis that delivers the best tantrums you will find outside of a daycare. Even stars who are normally composed like Andy Roddick can be prone to fits of anger.
Roddick, ranked 15th in the world by the ATP, reached his boiling point gradually during the course of his 6-7, 7-5, 6-1 defeat by 47th-ranked Philipp Kohlschreiber.
Roddick's cracking composure first became evident when he lost the second set. Roddick apparently came to the conclusion that the lost set was his racket's fault, and he quickly "Hulk-smashed" it into the ground.

That outburst drew a warning from the umpire. I think it is safe to say the warning went unheeded.
The attached video came not long after the warning. Roddick double faulted early in the third set. This time it must have been the ball's fault because Roddick let loose his home run swing and launched the ball deep into the crowd.
My favorite part of this video is the play-by-play analysis of the announcer. He was in the middle of talking, but was interrupted by Roddick's blast.
Announcer: Roddick...whoa.
And that was a solid description of the event.
The umpire had seen enough and awarded Kohlschreiber a penalty point. Shockingly, Roddick did not agree with the decision.
"It was a lob," Roddick argued.
There is no denying Roddick lobbed it. Prince Fielder also lobs 500-foot home run shots.
After the match, Roddick was quoted by BBC Sports as saying:
"Obviously it's a split second thing, Soon as I did it I wanted it back. It was a judgment call for him. I am pretty sure I saw an 8-year-old girl catch it on the way down. He was telling me I hit it as hard as I could.
It just sucks. I can't blame him, but I'm sitting here turning a six-week injury into a three-week injury, rehabbing eight hours a day, a split second decision he interjects himself and it's done.
I understand where the umpire is coming from but at a certain point, you know, you hit a tennis ball into a stadium, someone goes home with a souvenir, and it pretty much ruins the match from there. Seems counterproductive.
"
All I have to say to Mr. Roddick is, "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime."
